This invention relates to new and useful improvements in platforms for attachment to gondola cars and adapted to. support der-.
ricks when loading and unloading a car.
The invention comprises various detalls of constructlon and combinations and arangements of parts which will be hereinafter fully described, shown in the accom panying drawings and then specifically de fined in the appended claims.
I illustrate my invention. in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1. is a side elevation showing the application of my platform to a gondola car. Fig. 2 is an enlarged detail sectional View through a part of the platform and the wall of the car to which it is fitted. Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view through the platform and adjusting bracket, thetwo being disassembled. 7 view of a portionof the platform. Fig.- 5 is a detailperspective view of a clamping bracket member. Fig. 6 is a sectional View transversely and vertically through the platform and bracket member. 7 is a top plan View of the platform showing in 7 top plan the edge of the car to which it is fastened, and Fig. 8 is a side elevation of a portion of the wall of the car with the bracket attached thereto.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A designates the side wall of a gondola car having the usual truss rods B underneath the same.
C designates the derrick platform, made preferably of metal and having ribs D projccting from the under surface thereof, and upon which platform is the-hollowpost E of a derrick, the superstructure of which is cut away as it forms nopart of the present invention, and to the upper surface of Fig. 4 is a bottom plan" GoNnoLa DERRICK.

Other rods, designated by letter R have their heads countersunken in the platform and are connected with the turn buckles R which in turn are connected through the medium of the chains R with one of said truss rods B. What I claim to be new is 1. A derrick platform for gondola cars comprising a platform having downwardly projecting bracket portions for engagement over the upper edge of the side wall of a car and a horizontally extending rib por tion serrated upon its under edge, channel i beams, braces connecting the lower portions of the latter with said platform, a bracket member fastened to each channel beam and 1 having serrations upon'the upper edge thereof adapted to grip serrations upon the under edges of the ribs up'onthe platform, and means for holding the serrations in interlocked relation, as set forth.
2. A derrick platform for gondola cars comprising a platform having downwardly projecting bracket portions with a forwardly extending reinforcing rib having I serrations upon the lower edge thereof,a channel beam adapted to cooperate with the bracket portion for engagement with the opposite walls of the side of a car, a brace connecting said channel beam and the outer portion of the platform, a bracket member having ribs projecting from the upper horizontal face thereof and designed for engaging grooves in the lower edges of the ribs underneath theplatform, and clamping means for holding the serrations upon the bracket member and ribs in locked relation with one another, as set forth.
3. A derrick platform for gondola cars comprising a platform having downwardly projecting bracket portions with a" forwardly extending reinforcing rib having an elonsurfa'ce thereof and a groove adjacent thereto, a channel'beam having brace connections between the same and the plat-' form, an adjustable bracket member with ribs upon the upper horizontal face thereof adapted to engage said grooves and having serrations ad acent to said ribs and designed to engage the serrations upon said forwardly extending part of the rib underneath the platform, clamping means for channel beam in adjusted positions, and stay gated slot and serrations upon the under holding the adjustable bracket member and chains and rods connected to the platform and adapted to .be fastened to a part of the car, as set forth;
