APPLIGATION FILED MAR. 19, 191s.

EDWARD K. BIXBY, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS( FOUNTAIN -PEN Specification of Letteral Patent.
Patented sept. 1, 191.4.
Application filed March 19, 1913. Serial No. 755,292.
pointed out and claimed.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a longitudinal section of a fountain-pen embodying the invention, the ca being shown secured to the lower end of t e pen as is done when the en is to be used. Fig. 2 is an elevation of t e pen the ca being shown in section and applied to inc ose the pen. Fig. 3 is a perspective of the cap or magazine for hold- 1n the tablets.
@he pen comprises a hollow-body a having an ink-chamber a therein, and a nipple b carrying the grooved feeding-device c ofI usual construction and a pen point d. Nipple b is detachably secured by a screw-thread b to the cylindrical body a of the pen. The upper end of the body and nipple b are tapered to receive a correspondingly tapered cap e which is adapted to inclose the pen polnt.
The lower end of the body a is provided with a solid exteriorly screw-threaded extension f, and a cup or magazine vg for containing a number of ink-tablets g', is correspondingly threaded and removably secured to the body by said thread. The eriphery of said cup and the lower end of t e body a are tapered correspondingly to the nipple b and upper end of the bod a, so that the cap 'e may bek placed on an frictionally hel .around the' lower end of the body yand over the magazine. The magazine as thus shown in Fig. 1, is thus formed to it within the cap., In refilling the pen, it is only necessary to unscrew the magazineg and take out one'of theltablets and dro it into chamber a after removing the nipp e b and then the chamber may be filled with water.
The invention thus provides an improved Afountain-pen which com rises a magazine or container' for solidifie ink or ink tablets and which is fitted or connected to the body of the pen. lThe magazine adds but little to the length of the pen when the cap is over the pen-point and. when the pen is in use, the magazine does not interfere with placing the cap on the body, because it slips over the magazine.
VHaving thus described the-invention what I claim as new and desire to secure ters Patent, is, i
A fountain pen, comprising a body having a liquid chamber therein extending substantially the len h thereof, a nipple and pen body detacha ly connected to one end' of said body, a solid exteriorly screw' threaded extension at the end of said body op'" posite the pen body, a magazine having an interior screw thread engaging said screw threaded extension, and a detachable cap adapted to fit over either thev en body or over? said magazine and onto t e said body at that end.
