It'is the purpose of in present invention to have the. slide mom r deliver a predetermined and -fixed quantity of grain to the trough 1 when the openings 16 thereof are in register with the discharge openings 12. This is accomplished by having 'disposed directly above each of the discharge over each of mg member 24,
By this arrangement, it will be readily seen that a fixed and predetermined'quantity of grain will be caused to be discharged within the trough 1 when the slide member 14 is reciprocated, it being readily understood that when the openings 12 and 16 are out of register the openings 16 will be so positioned relative to the transverse beams 20 as to permit the same to receive the grain.
In order to better assure the delivery of the proper amount of grain to the discharge openings 12, I find it of advantage to direct the transverse beams 20, such beams being substantially semi-circular in form, the flat spring member 21 of a width in excess of the width of the openings 16 and having their extremities rounded, as indicated at 22, and adapted to contact with the upper surface of the slide member 14, whereby it will be readily perceivedthat such spring member effectively serves as'a medium whereby an excessive delivery of the grain to the adjacent discharge opening is revented. As herein set forth, such spring member 2lis maintained in operative position upon its transverse beam 29 through the medium of the upwardly directed headed bolt 23 having its upper or projected extremity engaged by the clampoperating in a manner which is believed to be self-evident.

As the hopper or granary ,7 is adapted, under ordinary circumstances, to hold approximately fifty bushels of grain, I also find it of advantage to suitably reinforce the same by the transversely directed reinforcing members or bars 26.
From the foregoing description, it is thought to be obvious that a stock feeder constructed in accordance with my invention is of an extremely simple and comparatively inexpensive nature and is particularly well adapted for use by reason of the convenience and facility with which it may be operated 1 I of the certainty with which and by reason be properly deposited upon my invention is susceptible of some change and modification without material departure from the principles and spirit thereof and for this reason I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself to the precise arrangement and formation of the several parts herein shown in carrying out my invention in practice.
, I claim:
A device of the character described including a hopper having a plurality of discharge openings in its base, a slide member positioned upon such base and provided with openings adapted to register with the discharge openings, transverse members disposed above the discharge openings of the hopper and the slide member, and spring contacting with the adjacent face of the slide memben. v
