STEAM-VALVE AND FITTING THEREFOR.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, lViLLIAM McCoRD JAB/IIESON, a subject of His Majesty the King of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, resident of Onehunga, in the Provincial District of Auckland and Dominion of New Zealand, have invented I1nprovements in Steam-Valves and Fittings 'ldherei'or, oil? which the following is a specification.
This invention provides for an improved term of steam valve, constructed so that the valve and valve seat are not subject to the action of? the steam in passing through the valve when in use, as is the case with the usual forms of valves, thereby necessitating frequent adjustment of the valve and valve seat.
The valve casing is constructed with the usual inlet and outlet passages extending out through opposite ends thereof, the inner ends of the inlet and outlet passages being connected by a vertical passage. Surrounding; the passage is a circular groove in which sits the hollow valve. Steam ports are formed in the hollow portion and the flanged portion of the valve is of larger diameter than the hollow portion, so as to sit on the valve seat which is formed around the outside oi? the circular groove.
Referring to the drawings which accompany this specification, Figure 1 is a sectional view of a complete steam cock fitted with a valve and valve seating constructed according to this invention, the valve being shown in its closed position, Fig. 2 is an en larged detail view of the valve and valve seating, and showing the valve in its open position, and Fig. 3 is a side view of the valve alone, showing steam ports formed therein.
The valve casing is formed with the usual inlet and outlet passages A, the inner ends A of which are connected by a vertical passage l3 forn'ied through the enlarged portion l of the partition D. Surrounding the vertical connecting passage B is a circular groove or recess E, which extends downward nearly the full length of the passage B, and in which fits the hollow valve F.
The flanged portion H of the valve is of Specification of Letters Patent.
