Description

R. STEEL. CARRIER FOR RECEPTACLES.
APPLIOATION FILED NOV.11, 1010.

LEONARD R. STEEL, or CLEVELAND, OHIO.
" CARRIER FOR RECEPTACLES.
Specification. of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 18, 1914.
Application filed November 11, 1910. Serial No. 591,804.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LEONARD R. STEEL, a
' citizen of the United States of America, re-
siding at Cleveland, in the county of Guyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented new and useful Improvements in Carriers for Receptacles, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to carriers for receptacles; and it has for its primary object the provision of a carrier-consisting of relatively separable sections and fastening means therebetween for holding the sections against accidental separation under ordinary conditions while constructedwhereby the sections may be readily separated when desired.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a structure of this character in which the fastening means for the sections of the carrier may be positively retained on one of the sections of the carrier at all I times.
Figure 1 is a plan view of a carrier constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of a portion of the same. Fig. 3 is a detail sectional view on a plane intersecting one of the curved members and also intersecting a pair of upstanding retaining tongues. Fig. 4c is a detail plan of the upper end of the lower section of the receptacle.
The carrier comprises a receptacle 1 embodying a lower section 2 and an upper section 3. At the top, the lower section is formed to provide a horizontally disposed peripheral flange 5 which is provided at diametrically opposite sides with substantially bayonet slots 6. At right angles to the plane of the slots 6, the flange 5 is formed to provide diametrically opposite arcuate recesses 7 The recesses 7 aline with similar recesses 8 in the horizontally disposed peripheral flange 9 of the top section 3. The flange 9 is stamped at diametrically opposite sides to form upwardly curved members 10 which are disposed immediately above the bayonet slots in the flange 5 when the sections 2 and 3 are operatively connected with each other. Immediately adjacent the sides of each member 10, the flange 9 is formed to provide upstanding retaining tongues 11. Substantially T-bolts are employed for connecting the said separable sections of the receptacle with each other, and as clearly illustrated, the heads 12 of the bolts are extended through the openings 13 in the flange 9 and beneath the members 10. the ends of each head extend beyond the sides of the members 10 and being interposed between the tongues 11 so as to be held thereby against accidental loss. The shanks 14 of the bolts extend downwardly through the bayonet slots 6 in the flange 5 and they have engaged therewith adjustable clamping nuts 15 which may be adjusted to bear against the underside of the flange 5 so as to hold the sections 2 and 3 of the re cepta ole securely connected with each other. It will of course be understood that before adjustment of the nuts 15 the sections 2 and 3 are moved relatively so as to cause the bolts to be disposed at the end portions 6 of the bayonet slots. After applying the nuts to the bolts, the shanks of the latter are upset, as at 16, so as to hold the nut against loss. In other words this arrangement is such that the upset portion 16 forms stops to limit the adjustments of the nuts in one direction. It will, of course, be understood that both sections of the carrier are formed so as to accommodate themselves to a correspondingly formed receptacle which is to be mounted within the carrier.
In practice it is preferred that the body portion of the lower section 2 be provided with one or more embracing members 18 having substantially triangular corner portions 19 that are adapted to prevent the carrier from rolling when the same is placed on its side.
I claim:
A member having an opening, a curved portion formed on the member and overlying the opening, lugs stamped from the member and lying beyond the ends of said curved portion, a member underlying the hold the latter engaged against the first first member, a bolt passing through the member. 10 opening and through the second member In testimony whereof I afliX my signature and having a right angularly extending in presence of two Witnesses.
' head overlying the first member and mount- LEONARD R. STEEL.
ed beneath the curved portion thereof and Witnesses: between said lugs, and a nut adjustable on MABEL LAWRENCE, the bolt and against the second member to JOHN D. LLOYD.
Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of Patents, Washington, D. G.
