To all whom, 1' t may concern lie it known that I, FRANK K'UIIN, a citizen of the l nited States of America, residing at Detroit, in the county of \Vayne and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Elec trical I leaters, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawin s.
The invention relates to electric heaters particularly designed for use as radiators, foot warmers, etc., and the invention consis-ls in various features of construction as hereinafter set forth.
In the drawings: Figure 1 is a longitudinal section through the heater; Fig. 2 is a perspective view of a portion of the base of the heater case detached, showing the manner of mounting the heating element thereon; Fig. 3 is a cross section; and Fig. -l is a similar view showing a modified construction.
A and A are two end members, preferably formed of castings, and provided with the imvar llyexteuding flange B.
is a perforated sheet metal casing member bent to form the top and sides of the case and to fit within the flanges B of the members A and A.
l) is a sheet metal base member which issecured to lugs E on the end members and A by suitable securing devices such as the screws F. The sides of this base are provided with upturned flanges G, which overlap the perforated case C and abut against the flanges B to form a finish.
Upon the base member D is mounted the heating unit or units. These are preferably supported by brackets H which, as shown, are Z-shaped strips of metal, having their lower flanges H spot-welded or otherwise secured to the base, while their upper flanges ll. form a support for the heating element. This heating element I is of the flat armoicd -f \'pe, and has its end portions beveled at I upon opposite sides of the terminal contact 1. ,The element may be secured by bolts K passing through apertures in the flange H and carrying clamping Washers L which overlap the element and bind the same upon the brackets H.
The terminal conductors can be carried outv through the bottom of the core as indi rated at M in Fig. l. I have. however, in
Fig. 4, shown a slightly modified construction wherein the terminal connectors are carried out of the casing through one of the end members A such as indicated at N.
With the eonstriu-tion asdescribed, air is freely admitted through the perforated casing, both below and above the heating units I, and will then pass outward through the top of the case. Direct radiation from said units will also pass upward and consequently the heater is particularly adapted for use as a foot-warmer.
W hat I claim as my invention is,
1. An electric heater, comprising end members, members, a bottom plate detachably secured to said end members, and a heating unit mounted on said bottom plate and supported thereby within said perforated casing.
2. An electric heater, comprising flanged end members, a perforated easing engaging said end members adjacent to the flanges thereof, a base plate extending between said end members 11 ving side flanges overlapping the lower edges of said perforated casing and abutting against the flanges of said end members, means for detachably securing said bottom plate to said end members, and an electric heating unit mounted on said bottom plate and supported above the same in the space wit-bin said perforated casing.
3. An electric heater, comprising end members, a perforated casing extending between said end members, a detachable bottom p-late, supporting brackets secured to and extending above said bottom plate, and an electric heating unit clamped upon said supporting brackets and attachable and detachable with said bottom plate from said casing and end members.
