Description

F. KUHN.
ELECTRICAL HEATING UNIT.
APPLIOATION FILED SEPT. s, 1913.
n l/ f 111111111 -llllllllllllll'lllllda 7455772 ss es A To all whom it may concern:
UNITED sT-ATEs PATENT oEEioE.
FRANK KUHN, Fv DETROIT, MICHIGAN.
ELECTRICAL HEATING UNIT.
Application led September 8, 1913. Serial No. 788,711. i
lle itlznown that I, FRANK KUHN, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Detroit, in the county of Vayne and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements inElectrical Heating Units, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
The invention relates to electrical heating units of the armored type, and it is the object of the invention to obtain' a simplified and improved construction as hereinafter set forth.
In the drawings: Figure l is aplan View..
of the unit; Fig. 2 is an enlarged cross section thereof; Fig. 3 is a central longitudinal section showing one of the intermediate stays for the armor; and Fig. 4 is a Ydiagram showing the manner of assembling the parts.
My improved construction is particularly.
' between the flanges C on the opposite sides is suitable to receive the unit A and to hold the same from displacement.
E is a second armor plate, which also is provided with upwardly )and outwardly bent flanges F and G, the flange G being rela-v produce goed heat conduction therebetween.
ll still better contact is obtained pr-ovnid l through ing one of the plates, such as E, with -a series of tongues I struck up from the sheet metal, and'which pass through apertures in the insulator and registering apertures in the opposite armor plate and are then clenched, as indicated at J. These intermediate stays will. greatly assist in .holding the plates together, and as they are formed by the tongues `of sheet metal they are of small cross sectionand may be easily arranged between con lutions of the resistor out of contact therewith. The yforming of the flanges F, G andC, D as shown, with substantially rectangular. bends, is also advantageous, ,as
itprovidesredge abutments for the insulator'.
which Willhold it from displacement. The
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Aug, 18, 1914:, i
terminals of the resistor may be connected to suitable terminal contacts'at the ends of the armor, such as shown at K. f
What lI claim as my invention is:
,1. In an electrical heating unit, the combination of opposite armor plates, an insulated unit clamped therebetween, and a stay between said plates formed by a tongue 'struck out from one of the plates extending through said insulating unit and passing a slit in the opposite plate and clenched.
, 2. An electrical heating unit, comprising an armor plate having*rectangularly-bent upward and outward flanges atits opposite 1 edges, an insulated resistor extending between said langes and in contact with said plate, andwa second armor plate provided Iwith similar flanges telescopically engaging said first plate and having its outwardly- "extending flanges seamed together.
3. An electrical heating unit, comprising an armor plate having upwardly-and outwardly bent flanges at the opposite edges thereof, an insulated resistor arranged between said langes in Contact, with said plate, a second armor plate having similar flanges telescopically engaging the first plate, saidy outward flanges being seamed together, and a tongue struck up from one of said plates passing through a slit in the opposite plate and, clenched. Y
i. ein electrical heating comprising urnior plate having rectangularly-u s at, its opposite edges termina-tin gularly-bentontwardly-extending a, an insulated :flat resistor element enn tending between the @mentioned flanges and lying adjacent to sa "c a bent i w "i ond armor* plate having lenges similarv-t .ln tesflnenj Wheref Ilx my signture those of the Erst plate and telescopically enin presence of'two Witnesses.-
gaging the latter, the outwardly-extending" v FRANK KUHN flanges of the two plates being 'se'amefl to- V v gether to exert a clamping" tension upon the e Witnesses :4
said plates and the interposed insulafed. Ie- .l WML J; BELKNAP,
