, IMPROVEMENT IN SAWS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 110.705, dated January 3, ISTI; antedatel December 17, 1870.
. it is generally held by the hands while in use.
The nature of my invention consists of constructing two kinds of saws on one blade and one handle, with a muzzle hinged to the saw or handle, so that it can be readily removed from the saw-teeth and turned up to the handle out of the way, and allow the saw to pass through the out up to the handle, while the muzzle on the upper edge of the saw is shut down upon the teeth, and forms a rest for the hand and protects it from the teeth,while the saw is held steady and pressed hard to the wood,whieh is usually done by the left hand, while the right hand is holding and'foreing the saw by the handle.
To enable others to understand my invention, I will refer to the drawing, in which-- Letters a. a marl: the muzzle or rest, oonstrueted with a groove, so as to shut over the saw-teeth, and is fastened to the saw with a rivet or screw, which forms the hinge, or it can be made without the rivet. so as to slip down from the handle over the teeth.
Theobjeet of this invention is tomake, praetieally, a rip and a crosseut saw both in one, and by this means supply a w ant that has lon g been felt by carpenters and other mechanics.
