5A I n 'IIIIIIII To all when it may concern:
f UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE. 1
PAUL W. THOMAS, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
DOOR-HANGER.
Be it known that 1, PAUL W. Trro ras, a citizen of the United States, residing at 'Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Door-Hangers, of v which the following is a specification.
. This invention relates to door hangers and it consists in the novel features hereinafter described and claimed.
An object of the invention is to provide a door hanger of simple and durable structure adapted tosupport a door, the said hanger having anti-friction elements whereby the door may be readily moved from closed to open position and vice versa.
In the accompanying drawing :--Figure 1 is a' side elevation of the upper portlon of a door showing the same suspended from the door hanger. Fig. 2 is an under view of the hanger with the door removed. Fig;
3 is a detailedsectional view of the hanger cut on the-1ine'3-3 of-Fi 1. Fig. 4 1s a perspectiveview of one o the blocks used in thehanger'.v v
The hanger includes a strip 1 which may be secured in any suitable manner to the frame of the door (not shown). strip 1 is approximately U-shaped in transverse section and is provided at its sides with longitudinally disposed ball races 2. The side portions of the strip" 1 at the ends thereof are-inturned as at 3, best shown-in Fig. 2 of the drawing. U-shaped clips 4 are applied at intervals to thestrip 1 and the slde portions of the said clips 4 bear against the side portions of the strip 1 and restrain the same against spreading. -Plates 5 are located opposite the inner-surfaces of the side portions of the strip '1 and are pro vided at intervals with openings which re-' ceive bearing balls 6. The plates 5 are rovided at the sides of the openings w ich receive the balls 6 with inwardly disposed lugs 7 which bear against the balls 5 and serve to hold the same in position in the openings in the plates 5. A yoke'member 8 is located between the plates 5 and is apg lipximately U-shaped in transverse section..
c said yoke member is provided at its sides with ball races 9 which-receive the innerside rtions of the balls 6; The]. inturned on s 3 of the sides of the strip 1 project into the path of movement of the I plates 5 and limit the movement of the said v Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed March l0, 1914. Serial No. 823,820.
The said.

plates with relation to'the strip 1. Blocks I 10 are carried at the end portions of the yoke member 8. The said blocks are approximately U-shaped in edge elevation as best indicated in Fig. 4 of the drawing and the end portions of the said blocks pass through'the yoke member 8 and are secured together by. means of filler blocks 11 which are suitabl secured to the ends of the blocks 10 and whlch hear at their sides against the inner surfaces of the side portions of the yoke member 8 and restrain the said side portions from bending in an inward direction. The blocks 10 are provided at their lower intermediate portions with slots 12 which open at one side of the blocks and the blocks at the open ends of the slots 10 are provided with upstanding lugs 13.. Headed studs 14 are sultably secured to the edge of the door 15 and the'intermediate portions of the said studs arereceived in ,the slots 12 while the sides of the heads of position can not slip out of the slots 12 provided in the blocks 10. Nuts 16 are screw threaded upon theintermediate portions of the studs 14 and are adapted to be engaged with the under surfaces of the blocks 10 as best. shown in Fig. 3 of the drawing whereby the studs 14 are held against vertical' movement with relation to the blocks 10 and consequently .when the parts are assembled it is impossible for them to become dis laced with relation to each other.
- rom the above description taken in conjunction with theaccompanying drawing it will be seen that when the parts are assembled as shown the door 15 is supportedby the studs 14 which engage the blocks 10 and the blocks in turn are supported by the yoke member 8 which rests a ainst the inner portions of the balls 6 which are mounted for movement in the races 2 of the strip 1. Con-' sequently'the- 'd'oor may be moved readily edgewise andthe plates 5 may follow thev movement of the door within the bounds prescribed between the inturned end 3 of z the sides'of the strip ,1. Therefore it will be. seen that adoor hanger of simple and durable structural arrangementis provided and. that the hanger'is'provided with anti friction elements which not only assist in supporting the weight of the door but mate-- rially reduce the friction when the door is moved from closed to open position and vice versa.
Having described the invention what is claimed is 1. A door hanger comprising a strip which is approximately U-shaped in transverse section and which is provided at its sides with ball races, U-shaped clips mounted upon the strip and having their side portions in contact with the side portions of the strip, plates located adjacent the inner surfaces of the side portions of the strip and provided with openings, balls located in the openings and received in the said ball races, a. yoke member located between the plates and provided at its sides with ball races which receive the inner portions of the balls, blocks'carried by the yoke member and a door connected with the blocks.
A door hanger comprising a strip provided with longitudinally disposed ball races, a yoke member located between the side portions of the strip and having longitudinally disposed ball races, balls received in the said races, plates having openings which receive the balls U-shaped blocks 7 carried by the yoke member, filler blocks connected with the ends of the U-shaped blocks and bearing against the inner surfaces of the side portions of the yoke member and a door connected; with the U-shaped blocks.
3. A door hanger comprising a strip rovided with longitudinally dispose all races, a yoke member located between the sides of the said strip and provided with longitudinally disposed ball races, bearing balls located in the said races, plates having openings which receive the balls U-shaped blocks carried by the yoke member and provided with slots, said blocks having at the ends of the slots upstanding lugs, headed studs received in the slots and having their heads bearing against the lugs and a door carried by the studs.
4. In combination with a door hanger, a yoke member, U-shaped blocks carried by the yoke member and provided with slots, said blocks having at the ends of their slots upstanding lu s, headed studs received in the slots, and the heads of the studs bearing against the lugs, nuts screw threaded upon the intermediate portions of the studs and adapted to bear against the under sides of the blocks, a door carried by the studs a strip receiving the yoke member, balls interposed between the strips and yoke memher and plates having openings which receive the balls.
In testimon whereof I afiix my signature in presence 0 two witnesses.
