ARTICLE-HOLDER FOR LIQUID-COATING DEVICES.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 11, 1914.
Application filed March 29, 1912. Serial No. 687,141.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, RnMn A. BnAUsEJoUR, a subject of the Crown of Great Britain, and resident of the borough of Queens, in the city and State of New York, have invented a new and useful lmprovement in Article-Holders for LiquideCoating Devices, of whichv the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an article holder for liquid coating devices,
and more parconnection with apparatus which coats articles by the dipping process.
The objects are to provide a device of this nature which is very simple to load and unload; which will securely retain the articles in position during the dipping process without the necessity of clamping the said articles at any point; which will accommodate itself to articles of various sizes and shapes and which is withal very simple and cheap in construction. The article holder which is the subject of this invention is particularly designed for holding articles of furniture, or building equipment, such for instance, as panels or doors, etc. which are composed of hollow metal.
A practical embodiment of the invention is represented in the accompanying drawings in which,
Figure 1 represents a the article holder with ported therein. Fig. 2 represents a section taken in the plane of the line AeA of Fig. 1, looking in thedirection of the arrows. the parts shown in Fig. 1, and Fig. 4 represents an end view thereof.
The article holder comprises a framework having a pair of base members 1, 2, which may conveniently be composed of iron, eX- tending from front to rear at each side thereof "and a pair of transverse angle iron bottom members 3, 4, the member 3 being slidably mounted on the base members l and 2, while the member 4 is Xedly secured at each end thereto; thus the two form together an adjustable bottom support for the articles 5 and 6 which are to be coated. The device also includes a pair of upright side members 7, 8, which may also be composed of angle-iron secured to the base top plan view of two articles supticularly to an article holder to be used in Fig. 3 represents an end view of i members 1, 2, at the extreme rear ends thereof; and a pair of upper or top members 9, 10, extending transversely from the side member 7 to the sidemember S, which transverse top members 9, 10, are also composed of angle-iron.
A pair of braces 11, 12, are secured at an angle to the members 1, 21 and the members 7, 8, by means of short bolts 13 which engage the lower end of the braces 11, 12, and the base members l, 2; and a through bolt 14 which engages the upper ends of the braces 11, 12, and passes through the side members?, S. These braces may also be composed of iron, preferably of flat section. The upright side members 7, 8, are provided throughout their upper halves, with a longitudinal series of closely spaced holes 15, while the transverse top members 9, 10, are each provided at their ends with holes fitted to register with the holes 15 in the side members 7, 8; whereby 10, may be secured in any desired vertical adjustment by means of suitable bolts 16 and butterfly nuts 17. The transverse top members 9, 10 are ea-ch provided with a longitudinal series of holes 18, the holes in the member l() being directly above the holes in the member 9, whereby they are adapted to receive headed pins 19 for supporting the upper ends of the articles to be coated, as clearly shown in Fig. 4. The transverse bottom members 3, 4, are also constructed with a longitudinal series of holes 2G fitted to receive staples 21 for holding the lower ends of the articles to be coated, as is also clearly shown in Fig. 4.
The article holder as a whole may be equipped with rollers 22 removably secured to the base members 1 and 2, by means of bolts and nuts 23.
In operation, supposing the articles to be coated to be, for instance, hollow metal doors; battens 24 of wood or other convenient material are secured to the upper and lower edges of the doors, the said battens being both wider and longer than the edges of the doors. The doors are then placed in the article holder, while the latter is in its vertical position on its rollers 22, as clearly shown in Figs. 2 and 3, the doors resting upon the bottom members 3, 4. The pins 19 are then dropped into the appropriate holes 18, so that one pin will engage member 9, thus obviati'ng each side of the rearwardly protruding ends of the upper battcns 24, and "the 'staples are also dro Jped into the appropriatevli'oles in the bottom members 3J 4, sb that they engage each side of the lower battens 24. It will be noted that inasmuch as the pins 19 engage only the battens 24, I the jsaid pins `do not come in contact at all with th'e'doors to be coated; and
furthermore, that the yower battens 24, be-
ing wider than the thickness of the doors,
' article holder'at the ends of the bolts 13, 14,
in order that the article holder may be supported at the said points and hence tilted backward as `it is lifted from the floor in order that the. articles to be coated may rest against the ,through bolt 14 land top the possibility of the articles `falling forward out of the v holder, while also insuring that the articles are held "at the proper angle for dripping. It will be understood, of course, that the rollers 22 may be removed 'beforethe dipfping voperation is ,performed The article holder above described provides means for securely supporting the articles to be dipped without engaging any part ofthe article which should be coated; while the said article holder may be very quickly and easily loaded andunloaded with ut the `necessity of tools or complicated operations. v
It is tov4 be understood that various changes might be resorted to in the form, constru'ction'wand arrangement of the several parts Without departing from the Srlt Iand fsco Je of my invention, hence ll do not wish to limit myself strictly to the construction herein Set ferte, bi1- `1.- An arti, le holder ,O f the diameter de Sfzrbefl f.Crimprising a framework haring a rer Lot ,t0n members ,a rail' Of 'bottom members, and devices arranged to slidably iit protruding ends of the I in said top and bottom members `for holding the articles in position in the holder.
2- 'A11 article holder .o the Character described comprising framework having a pair of top members', a pair of bottom members, a single set lof devices arranged to slidably fit in the pair of top members and two sets of devices arranged to slidably fit in the pair of bottom members, the said devices being adapted to hold the articles in position in the holder.
3. An article holder of the character Vdescribed comprising a framework vhaving a pair of top members one plane, a pair of bottom members in another plane, and devices `arranged to slidably fit in said members for holding the articles in position in the holder. 4 v v 4. An article holder of the character described comprising a framework having a pair of adjustable top members, a pair of bottom members and devices arranged 4to slidably engage said members for holding the articlesin position in the holder:
5. An article holder of the character described comprising a'frameworkhjaving top and bottom members, pins arranged to slidably engage the tofp members 'and staples arranged to slidably engage the bottom members, the said pins and staples serving to hold the articles in po 6. An article holder of the character described comprising a framework having Aa pair yof adjustable top membersa pair of bottom members 'one of which-is movable toward and away from the other, anddevices arranged to slidably engage said r'nembers for holding the articles in position in the holder; f
7 Jin article holder scribed comprising a pair of adjustable top members in one plane, a pair of bottom members in another plan'e, one of said bottom members being movable toward and away ,from the other, and devices arranged to slidably engage said members for holding the articles in" positionin the holder.
lnjtestimony, that I claim the foregoing as my invention, I have signed my name in of the character .de-
sition in the holder.
