To all whom it man concern:
Be itknown that I, ANTONJ. HAUG, a subject of the Emperor of Germany, and a resident of Nashua, in the county of Hillsboro, State of New Hampshire, United States of America, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Centrifugal Pulp-Screens, of which the following is tion.

Referring to the drawings a denotes the machine casing, which comprises a horizontally arranged cylindrical shell a and b is a shaft supported in bearings b b at each end of the casing and extending through said casing. 8 denotes the screen drum, which is cylindrical in form and is supported at each end from the inner walls ofthe end plates. The screen illustrated in the drawings and described herein is of the stationary type, though it is not essential to the operation of the device that it should be. e
Arranged centrally of the length of the casing is an inlet 1' which passes through the shell and screen drum and then branches toward each end of the machine in feed .spouts.10-10, which are of course located within the screen drum and spaced therefrom. -These spouts have holes near their -outer. ends through which the stock is delivered to the interior of the screen drum. Mounted on the shaft within and near each end of the casing are hubs 1515, carrying disks 16-46, from the outer. edges of which project blades 17-17, which extend '10 10. The shaft is intended to rotate at a high rate of speed, and these blades catch ings at the ends of the feed spouts, and throw it against the screen drum with such force as to cause the fine pulp to pass through the screen against the inner wall of the casing, whence it drops to the bottom of the machine and passes out through the pulp outlet 0. The blades are oppo-' sitely inclined towardthe center of the machine, as illustrated, in order to give the pulp a tendency to move toward the center of the machine, with the result that the slivers and coarser particles which cannot end of the machine toward the center where they are delivered to the sliver outlet 0. To make sure of; clearing the interior of the machine from slivers which collect at the center, I prefer either to project a cirscreening drum. as illustrated in Fig. 3 which will cause the slivers when they strike this ring on either side to drop and pass out of the sliver outlet, or I can cut away the center of the screen and interpose a trough 22 which will receive the slivers and carry them down to the sliver outlet at the lower part of the machine, as illustrated at O in Fig. 1. v

The screening operation is practically an instantaneous one, that is to say-the screening is all done at the moment when the pulp is thrown against the screen by the blades. Such pulp asis not screened at this operation is carried along with the slivers and lostin the waste. I claim as my invention:
1. In a machine of the character described, the combination with acasing and a cylin drical screen drum located therein, of an inlet extending through said casing and said screen drum intermediate the length thereof, said inlet having lateral extensions within the screen drum and spaced therefrom, outlets near the ends of said lateral extensions, separate outlets from the casing for the slivers and the screened ulp, and means located between said lateral extensions and the screen drum for delivering the stock to the screen drum for causing the slivers to movev toward the sliver outlet.
2. 4. In a machine of thecharacter described the combination. with a casing and a cylindrical screen drum located therein, of an inlet extendii'ig through said casing and said screen drum intermediate the length thereof, said inlet having lateral extensions within the screen drum and spaced therefrom, outlets near the ends of'said lateral extensions, a pulp outlet from? the casing, a sliver outlet communicating with the interior of the screenintermediate the: ends thereof, and means .locatedbetween said lateral extensions and said screen 'drum for delivering stock to said screenand for causing slivers to move toward'the center of said screen to the sliver outlet;

In a machine of the character described a horizontal cylindrical casing, a shaft extending therethrough, a cylindrical screen drum located with said casing, a set of paddles supported from said shaft at each end of the machine and extending toward the center thereof, said paddles being adapted to rotate with their outer edges in close proximity to said screen drum, the paddles of one set being inclined oppositely to those of the other set and inclined rearwardly with respect to their direction of rotation toward the center of the machine, an inlet arranged intermediate the length of the machine and extending into the interior of the screen drum, and feed spouts extending from each side of said inlet within the plane of said paddles and having delivery openings near the opposite respective ends of the screen, a sliver outlet in communication with the screen drum at its central part and a pulp outlet in communication with the interior bf the casing.
7. In a machine of the character described a horizontal cylindrical casing, a shaft extending therethrough, a screen drum located within said casing and supported at its end from the end walls of said casing, collectin means arranged circumferentially of sai screen drum near its center, aisliver outlet in communication with the interior of said screen in the plane of said collecting means, an inlet arranged intermediate the length of the machine and extending into the interior of said screen drum, feed spouts extending from each side of said inlet toward the ends of the machine and spaced from said screen drum, paddle blades located in and adapted to rotate through the annular spaces formed between the screen drum and said feed spouts, said blades being supported from their outer ends by said shaft, the blades at one end being inclined oppositely to those at the other end, said inclination being toward the center of the machine and rearwardly with respect to the direction of rotation of said blades, and a pulp outlet in communication with the interior of said casing.
8. In a machine of the character described, a horizontal cylindrical casing, a shaft extending therethrough, a screen drum located can within said casing and supported at its end from the end walls of said casing, collecting means arranged circumferentially of said screen drum near its center, a-sliver outlet in communication with the interior of said screen and with said collecting means, stock feeding means extending into the interior of said screen and having discharge openings near opposite ends of the screen, paddle blades located in and adapted to rotate through a space formed between the screen drum and the stock feeding means, said blades being supported by said shaft, the blades at oneend being inclined oppositely to those at the other end, said inclination being toward the center of the machine and rearwardly with respect to the direction of rotation of said blades, and a pulp outlet in communication with the interior of said casing.
9. In a machine of the character described, the combination with a casing; of a cylindrical screen drum located therein, a stock inlet having a lateral extension with a discharge orifice near one end of the screen drum and adapted to deliver the stock thereat, a .pulp
.outlet in communication with the interior of the casing, a sliver outlet communicating with the interior of the screen and located approximately in alinement with said stock inlet, and means interposed between said drum and said lateral extention for delivering the stock against said drum and causing the slivers to travel lengthwise the drum toward the sliver outlet, said means comprise ing a series of rotatable paddle blades in clined rearwardly with respect to the direction of rotation from the stock delivery out-- let to the sliver outlet.
10. In a machine of the character described a horizontal casing, a shaft extending therethrough, a screen drum located within said casing, a sliver outlet in communication with the interior of the screen and intermediate the ends thereof, stock delivering means extending into the interior ofvsaid screen and having discharge openings for dischar ing stock at the respective opposite ends 0 the screen, paddle blades located in and adapted to rotate through spaces between the screen and said discharge openings, said blades being supported by said shaft and the blades at one end being inclined oppositely to those at the other end, said inclination being toward the center of the machine and rearwardly with the direction of rotation, and a pulp outlet in communication with the interior of the casing.
