The valve disks 6, 6, are each provid-ed with two lugs 2l, oppositely directed, and said l5 respechigs are undercut or slotted, as indicated at 21a. These disks are each also provided with four inclined planes or cani surfaces, distributed about the center, as indicated at 1S.
By referring to Figs. 2, 4, and G, it will be noted that the threaded stein nut iO is provided with the four projecting lugs arranged in the notched portions 2O and indicated at 22 and 28. These are best shown in Fig. 6. During this operation the lower wedge body 15 comes in contact with the bottom of the valve body 2, as is indicated in Figs. il and 2, and at this time it is inte idealV that the valve pieces or disks shall be brought nearly opposite the valve ser ts. Referring again tothe valvemechanism; l desire to state that the improved features of my invention embrace that of applying the pressure againstthe valve disk at'four separate points,
improvement over those valves where the pressure is ,applied only in the center of the valve disk. By my construction, the springing-of the valve pieces` or disks isabsolutely prevented, on account of applying the pressure at the four separate and equally divided points on 'the circle of the valve disk; and on account of the cri-dependent feature of tlieweclging surfaces employed, this pressure is at all times equal atfeach of the four points at contact.
Another important feature of my invention is the meansfor hol ding the upper ends of the valve disks together by means of the lugs and working' in the ,slots 21, or upon the outer parts of the lugs 21. 'Heretofore, it has been necessary toprovide some which is a very Ymaterial kind of links, requiringseparate bolts or othermeans to hold the valve disks together and tothe stem not, and 1 mfercoiioeV this difliculty in a very substantial and also a Y very inexpensive manner. l? rom the foregoing, it will be observed that the parts 7 with their cams '8 and 9 and wedges 17" act as independentV cam devices between the valvepieces or disks and are movable to and from each other for causing the disks to be moved to or from their seats; and likewise the stein nut 10 andV wedge body 15V having` their cam portions cope' with the parts 7 constitute cam operating means for causing the independent cam devices to be moved relatively to each other.

Having noiv described my invention, what l claim new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
l. ln a gate valve, the body portion having oppositely directed inlet and outlet ports and valve seats arranged in alinement7 combined with tivo valve disks for the re spective valve seats each having aplurality of cam surfaces on opposite sides of a diametrical luie, independent cam `devices arranged between the disks and at l tin es out of operative Contact Wit-h the body portion and each having four contacting parte for cooperating With a corresponding number of cam surfaces on the disks iviereby said disks maybe positively moved at their upper and lovver portions simultaneously into contact with the valve seats cam operating means independent of the cam devices and the body portion for causing the devices to be positively moved transversely to the movement of the disks both at top and bottom, and power applying means for operating the cam operating meansn in a gate valve, the body portion having oppositely directed inlet and outlet ports and valve seats arranged in alinement7 combined with tivo valve disks for the respective valve seats each having a plurality of cam surfaces above and below a diametrical line cam devices comprising independent parts out oit operative contact ivith the body portion and movable to and from each other transversely to the direction of movement of the disks and having cam portions at upper and lower parts making contact with the canisuri'iaces ot' the disks above and below the diam 'ric-al, line for forcing the disks apart and against their respective seats, cani opera ting means independent ci the cani devices for causing the cam devices to be positively moved both at top and bottoni transversely to the movement of the disks to make them positively operative upon the disks to the saine extent both at the upper and loiver parts thereof, and power applying moans for actuating the cam operating` means.
