The formation of loops and meshes, which, formed along the fabric base 2, according to the design desired, represents the crochetwork, is efi'ected like the known chain'- stitch-mesh formation and can be seen from Figs. l, 5 and 8: The advanced needle 23 pierces the fabric base 2 and, upon its re turn movement, the looper-point of the looper 18, which swings always toward the middle of the looper supporting-head, catches the thread-loop 41, as the push-rod 12 is drawn outward by the double-armed levers 11. The looper 18 holds the loop fast, drawing the same upon its return movement somewhat downward, until upon the next ad vance of the needle 23 the loop a1 gets gradually loose for the passage of the needle and falls off from the looper-point. A particular characteristic of the invention is that the looper 18 and the needle 23 accomplish rotary movements in the same direction and thelooper 18 swings with its point always toward the middle of the looper supporting head, to which also the needle is directed. The thread is drawn to that direction in which the pantograph-pin is moved, and in the same direction also the looper-point must swing and, therefore, needle and looper must be turned accordingly. Supposing, forinstance, that the pantograph-pin is, after formation of the thread-loop on the looper (Fig. 5) and upon a complete return of the needle (for instance into a position between that shown in Figs. 5 and 8), moved in the direction of arrow III (see front view ofthe looper 18, Fig. 6,) also the needle 23 and the looper 18 must, for obtaining a cor- 'rect loop-formation, receive a corresponding fabric by means of acids, chlorid or similar means, for instance by the known drying process, correspondingly multiple loose crochet goods are obtained, which from hand crochet-work can be hardly distinguished.
I claim a In an embroidering machine, the combination of reciprocating and rotary needleslides, needles secured thereto, swingmg and rotary loopers to co-act with the needles for the formation of chain-stitches, a driving spindle, worms connected to the slides and loopers, w0rm-wheels to gear with the worms, bevel-gearings to connect the worm-v wheels with the driving spindle, and means to allow part of the bevel-gearings to par ticipate in the reciprocating movement of the slides, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
OTTO WALTHER.
