firebox 1? and in the shell 11 a fire-loos lo, both boxes lacing, preferably, cylindrical and having arranged near their bottoms grates 1%) and 20, respectively, on WhlCllfilQS may be bull". Below the grates are located aslrpits 23. and 22,-r-cspect1vely, to which access may bllfid through collars 23, which extend beyond their respective boiler shells and are provided with dampers 24. and 25, respectively, which are hinged to the said collars. For the admission of fuel, doors 26 and 27 are provided, such doors being hinged to collars :27, which extend from the shells to the respective fire-boxes. The two fire-boxes communicate with each other through a tubular member 28, in which is disposed a disk shutter 29, which is adapted to be actnatetl by means of a handle 30, tllahis attache-1i to the spindle 31 of the shutter. By means of this shutter, the communication between the two fire-boxes may be controlled for a gaurpose hereinafter to be described.
From the top of each fire-box leads a line 32, extending up toward and through the heads 12 and 13, respectivel to be connect ed with the chimne. The lilies, which serve to conduct the products, of combustion t0- Warcl. the chimney, are bent in the form of coil clearly shown in Figs. 1 3 oi the drawings. By forming these lines in the manncr described, obviously the flow of the ptozlucts of combustion will be retardccl and their nesteliectivel y given up to the water that surrounds the said fines and the tire boxes in tile two boilers. ranged a damper-33 of the well known construction, which is adapted to be operated manually control the draft in the line. The fines may be made, preferably, detach able, to permit them to be removed from the shells for cleaning purposes, etc.
The shell 11 and the elements located therein form :i'watcr heater, the Water en toting the same through a supply pipe 34:. A pipe 35 is tapped into the'l ead 13 of the heater for the purpose of conducting the loot Water to the place at which it is to be used, I The shell with th elements time in forms a steam boiler. ancl'is provided with a water supply pipe 36 near its bottom and with a steam pipe 37 in the head 12 of the some.
