This invention relates to improvements in portable elevators or tiering machines; and an object, of this invention is to provide :1 portable elevator or tiering machine the height of which may be varied for any de sired purpose such as that the machine may be drawn tlllollgl'l doorways in passing from room to room of the warehouse or other place in which it is used.
In the drawings illustrating the principle of this invention and the heat mode now known to me of applying that principle. Then the looking nuts 4 are loosened and the locking bolts 3 are re moved, after which the uppermost section is swung into the dotted line position shown in Fig. 1. If after lowerin the topmost section it is found that the eight of the machine is still too great to enable it to pass through the doorway, the intermediate section 2 is swung upon its hinges in an entirely similar manner. t 0 machine has passed through the doorway into the proper room, the lowered section or sections may be raised into their Proper position. Of course, the provisiono the hinged extension sectionsmakes it ossible to vary the reach or range of action of the tiering machine, as well as adapts it for being moved from room to room through the doorways by means of which the same communicate.
In acordance with the provisions of the patent statutes I have described the principle of operation of m invention, together with the apparatus w ich I now consider to represent the best embodiment thereof; but I desire to have it understood that the apparatus shown is only representative and that the invention can be carried out.

I claim:
1. A sectional tiering machine having a 85 main frame provided at its upper end with a laterally-extending arm; an extension section provided at its lower. end with a laterally-extending arm, said arms being hingedly connected and said section being normally in prolongation of said main frame; a load-carrying platform mounted free to move in said frame and section; and mechanism for raising said platform.
2. A sectional tierlng machine having a main frame provided at its upper end with a laterally-extending arm; an extension section provided at its lower end with a laterally-extending arm, said arms being hingedly connected and said section being normally in prolongation of said main frame; a load-carryin platform mounted free to move in said rame and section; a cable one end of which is attached to said load-carrying platform; mechanism for winding up the other end of said cable; and a movable sheave over which said cable runs and which is transferable back and forth between said section and main frame.
