Specification of Letters Patent.

seyand State of. .\linnesota, have invented certain new and useful lmprovcments in Signs, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to produce an electrically lighted sign comprising the representation of an object having a portion illumimlted in imitation of im'andescence of that particula r portion, while the remain ing portion is opaque except for a translucent panel on which advertising matter is to be displayed; and with this and minor objects in view, my invention consists of the parts and combination of parts. as will be hereinafter more fully described.

in Figs. 1, 2 and 3, l have shown my invention as embodied in a sign in the conventional shape of a cigar, and in these figures. 8 represents the main body of the sign which is hollow and which T have illustrated as being made of glass, although, of course, it will be understood that for the purposes of my invention,thisbody may be made of sheet metal or any other desired material. This body must be opaque, theret'ore when made of glass, paint, it brown to imitate the color of tobacco, with the exception of that portion 9, which represents a cigar land. The cigar band portion. is raised, as clearly shown in the sectional views, above the outer face of the body portion. This band port-ion 9, is translucent and is adapted to display an advertisement, as shown in the drawmg. Of course, the shape of the band is immaterial as far as the purpose of my invention is concerned.

The end portion is provided with a reduced inner end 17 and a shoulder '18, the reduced end l7 being adapted to fit snugly within the socket. 14, while the shoulder 18 fits snugly against the end oi the body portion, as shown in Fig. 2.
The end portion and the body portion are separated by an opaque partition 19 having; lugs 20 which are adapted to engage the shouhler 15 of the body portion 8. This partition 19 is provided with a U- shaped strap 21 extending into the end portion 16 and having 'a screw threaded opening into which the screw 22 is adapted to pass, said screw being seated in an opening in the end of the end portion, so that as the screw is tightened, the lugs 20 of the partition are drawn closely against the shoulder 15 ot' the body portion 8, while the reduced portion 17 of the end portion is drawn snugly into the socket 14". This partition 19 carries a lamp 23 which is supplied with current by the uonduetor 24.
The. tubes or conduits 11 also serve as hanging braekets for the sign.
For the purpose of giving the effect of the intermittent glow at the end of the-cigar, any approved alternating flashing device may be used I claim in a sign representing an object, the combination with a body portion having a.
