Be it known that 1, CHARLES P. Gnarls, a citizen of the United States, residing at Harrison, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined l/Vashtuhs and Heaters; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, -l-%lh1fll at: will enable others skilled in. the art to which it appertains to make and use the name.
This invention relates to combined washtuhs and heaters and designed as an at tachn'iont for various types of wooden washing machines, the purpose being to provide means for heating the water and keeping it hot within the wooden tub or casing during the operation of washing the clothes.
in washing machines of the type referred to, when the hot water is placed therein becomes cold and under this condition the soiled portions oil the clothes are not thoroughly chainsed,
My invention is primarily designed for the purpose of overcoming the defect re" ferrcd to and to provide moans tor keeping; the water constantly at the required temperature to obtain the very host results.
Referring: to the accompanying drawings, the figure of the drawing is an enlarged vcrtical sectional view of the bottom of the tub, showing my invention connected thereto.
Referring to the drawing, the numeral l designates the bottom of a wooden tub of on ordinary nothing: machine.
liu carrying out my invention l form a circular opening in the bottom. of the tub and n this opening I insert a pan or heat condenser coinprieiim a copper or other metal device having an annularr'lm 3 which lilo closely within the opening in the bottom of the tuh, said condenser having; a plane in|- perforate top t. Surrounding the body portion 3 of the heat condenser as an asbestos packing ring 5, and a metal ring (3 is placed on the top of the packingring 5. At the lower end of the cylindrical portion 23 oil the condenser is an annular flange 7. the posed intermediate the flange 7- and the lower wall of the bottom 1 an asbestos packing'ring 8 which surroimds the hilly portion 3 and is provided with a metal ring J which its around the body portion 3,-end a series oil bolts 10 extend through the ring (3, an asbestos packing ring 5, on the lnside lab, and through the packing 8, the flange T and the ring 9. These bolts also extend through an annular flange 11 formed upon the extension member 1'3 "which is of cylindrical form and of the name interior diameter an the body portion oi? the condenser. heater coln n'ising a gas burner 13 having an enlarged head provided with perforations is connected to a gas supply pipe 14; which may he nuppurtod by means of metal bands l l. provided with a cook '15.
It will be understood that instead of the gas burner 1 may use a kerosene, gasolene or other burner.
'lhe 0])01nll01i of my invention may be briefly described as follows: \Vhen the burner is lighted, the heat will extend tin-(nigh the innmrforate top 411 and keep the water at an equal tenmerature during the washing operation. The asbestos packing and manner of securing the some around the opening in the wooden bottom will prevent the heat from igniting; the wooden bottom of the washing machine.
My invention is simple in construction, can be connected to any type of wooden washing machine, and will insure an equablc temperature of the water in the tub during the washing operation.
I elnin'i: is
A combined washtnl) and heater, comprising); a washtuo provided with an opening in the lniltoin thereof, a heat condenser iittcd in said opening, said condenser rizonu'niswiing a cyl'iinlrical portion having an imperiorate lop, packing; rings :iurrounllinlz the condcnn-r, nu cI-dcmled member to conline the heat within the comienser, and a homer dispoaml below the condenser for keeping the water in the lab at the rcdwtrcd temperature.
