PROTECTING-GARMENT FOR AVIATOR/S.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, RIoI-I'ARD KooK oW, a subject of the Emperor of Germany, residing at Biickgen, Post Grube Ilse, Nieder- Lausitz, Germany, have invented certain Improvements in Protecting-Garments for Aviators, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to a protecting garment for aviators and the like and consists in making such garments out of,
layers of felt and aluminium which are spaced by spring elements so that, in the case of a fall, the shock will, as far as possible, be neutralized. The innermost layer is composed of felt and is of considerable thickness. This layer is covered by an aluminium layer and both are spaced by means of spring-elements from another aluminium layer. The outer aluminium layer is in its'turn covered by a layer of felt or canvas.
Preferably separate garments are made up in this manner for the head, the body and the legs of the aviator, who will then, in case of a fall, at least to a great extent, be protected against the shock.
In the accompanying drawings the invention is illustrated, Figure 1 representing an Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed October 10, 1913. Serial No. 794,465.
edge view of the layers, Fig. 2, a cross-sect on of the legging, and Fig. 3, a sectional View of the head protector.
Patented July 28, 1914. p
The garment is made up of a thick inner layer a of felt which is covered by a layer]; of aluminlum. The aluminiumlayer b is spaced by means of springs 0 from another aluminium layer (Z to which, finally, an outer layer 6, of felt or canvas is applied.
The manner in which the elements are combined naturally depends upon the shape ments spacing said layers, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
