Be it known that ll, Fno zn M. Benin, residing at Central Pomt, in the county of Jackson and State of Urenon, have invented s a new and improved habyedumper, of

which the following is a specification.

This invention, which generally relates to appliances for supporting names as they learn to walk, is more especially designed to also included for yicldingly and adjustably sustaining the baby holding; means from an overhead or ceiling support.

With other objects in view, that will hereinafter appear, my invention consists in the peculiar construction. and novel arrangement of parts hereinafter fully explained, specifically pointed out in the appended claims and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:

In its practical arrangement, my invention comprchcnds, as it were, three essential parts, an adjustable holder For suspending the complete appliance from a ceilingor other overl'iead support, av body or support by which the baby sustained, and a yield ing hanger that connects with the adjustable holder and from which the baby sustaining body is flexibly suspended.

and it is suspended from. the frame 4: by coil spring hangers 3 6, the upper ends of which hook into the several openings 30 in the top frame 4;, and the lower ends hook around the curved corner portions 40 of the frame 5, and to hold the said lower ends of the spring hangers from creeping on the rod frame 5, spacing tubes {ii are mounted on the said rod frame between the lower ends of the spring hangers 6.

The body or baby holding device, in my titl complete appliance, the construction of t which forms an essential feature of my invcntion, consists of a framing that includes a series of frame sections, each bent up from a stout wire member. One oi the said sections, the central one, and hereinafter termed the saddle section, has the shape of and is the same side of the hanger frame 5. To the saddle frame 7, are connected the opposite side sections 8 8, and the front and back frame sections 9-9, each of which includes a metal rod bent to n til-shape and having the side arms 91, terminating in eyes 92 for hinging'fl onto the side and end members of the sadle frame 7. The several frames '7, s end 9 are turice tilt!) ther connected by a flexible covering, preferably stout canvas or ducking'15, which is doubled upon itself to completely cover the several frames 7, 8 and 9. At-

the forward ends of the side frames 8, the flexible body 15 is formed with triangular shaped extensions 80-80, one of which has snap button fasteners 82,. and the other. fastener sockets 81 for coiiperating with .the fasteners 82. Near the front end, the body portion 15, has a pair of leg openings 16 having reinforced edges 17, as shown.

'18 designates flexible hangers, preferably chains, one for each corner of the frame 5, the upper ends of which hook into the pendent-loops 45. The lower ends of two of the hanger chains 18, at one side, connect to the outer edge of one of the side frames 8-8, and the opposite chains 18, connect with the outer ends of the other side frame 8. Strap buckles 25 are secured to the under side of the outer edges of the side frames, and straps 26 are likewise secured to the under side of the end frames 9.

By reason of the peculiar construction and arrangement of the parts as hereinbcfore described and asshown in the drawings, it is apparent that when the side and end members 8 and 9 are turned upwardly they can be readily held secure to their upright position by the strap and buckle connection, it being also understood that the supplemental members or extensions 80 are bent in and preferably snapped together before the front frame 9 is secured. When thus secured, the body portion of my appliance is arranged as a. baby jumper or walker, since when thus adjusted the babys legs extend through the saddle frame openings, as understood by referring to Fig. 2.

Whenit desired to use the appliance as a high-chair or swing, the baby is seated on the front edge of the saddle frame, with its legs hanging oyer the turned-down front frame 8, the extensions or members 80-80 being at this time locked together, they serving as a guard for holding the baby from falling, it being apparent that when thus adjusted the baby can freely move its hands through the front opening 27,

In some instances, particularly when the baby is old enough to stand, the members SOSO may be opened and the baby with its legs through the saddle frame can utilize the front frame 8 as a tray for food or play toys. as illustrated in dotted lines in Fig. 2.

When adjusted as shown in Fig. 3 my appliance forms a convenient cradle swing, the front end 8 being suspended in a horizontal position, andthe rear end 8, in a slightly inclined position by proper adjustment of the strap and buckle connections, and in this latter adjustment the extensions 80-80 are preferably joined, since they tend to hold the babys legs down and keep him from kicking or rolling off the cradle-like support; I

From the foregoing, taken in connection with the drawings, the complete construction, the manner in which my invention may be adjusted and converted for use and its advantages will be readily apparent.

It will be noticed that since the saddl frame 7, the babys frame 4 and the upper frame 3, are'of like shape, the hanging con nections are such that it is impossible for the saddle or cradle body to torsionally twist with respect to the overhead support, and the movements thereof will either be regularly lateral or longitudinal and therefore danger of throwing the baby off the cradle support is reduced to the minimum.

What I claim is:

1. In a baby jumper, ababy holder con sisting of a saddle portion, side and end sections hingedly connected to the saddle portion, said side sections including supplemental members or extensions, having interlocking means whereby when said sections are joined they form a transverse guard, an overhead support, means for sustaining the baby holder, on the overhead support, and other means for holding the side and end sections to their relatively adjusted positions.

2. In a baby jumper, a baby holder comprising a central frame, formed of awire strand bent to produce side and end ,por-

tions; U-shaped frame sectionshi-ngedly-.con-

nected to the side andend portions of the central frame, a flexible covering that in.- cases all of the mentioned frames and is connected therewith, that portion of the flexible covering over the central frame having leg openings, means on the side and end sections for holding the said side and end sections locked to their adjusted positions, and a hanger connected to the opposite side frame sections for suspending the said holder from an overhead support.

3. An appliance of the character described, in which isincluded a baby holder consisting of a central rigid frame composed of opposite side and opposite-end portions,

side and end sections hingedly joined to the the side frames for suspending the said holder from an overhead support.

4. In a baby jumper, a seat or saddle portion, two side frames hingedlysecured to said seat portion, over-head suspension means connected to said side frames, a covering over said side frames Which includes and a cover over said front and back frames,

flap members that are adapted to over-lap and form a front transverse guard, a front frame hinged to said seat portion, a back frame hinged to said seat portion, strap and buckle connections between said side frames and said front and back frames respectively,

substantially as shownand described.
