Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 21, 1914.
Application filed May 5, 1914. Serial No. 836,575.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MnmmmS. Gimme,
a citizen of the United States of America, re-
siding at Los An les, county of An- 5 geles, State of alifornia, have invented a certain new-and useful Removable Attachment for Compensating Malarticulation of Teeth; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to a removable attachment for compensating mal-articulation of teeth; and it may be said to consist in the provision of a dental attachment of the nature specified having the novel and advantageous features and the' novel and improved construction which willappear from inafter.
- When, as somet es happens, some of the "teeth in one of the jaws and the corresponding teeth in the other of the jaws do not articulate, it is desirable that the deficienc be com nested in order that such teeth sha do their share of work in the mastication of food.
provide a novel and improved removable attachment which is adapted to compensa trial-articulation of the teeth.
Other objects and the advantages of the j invention will be apparent from a careful consideration of the following description of one form and application of the attachment, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 is a view of 1 4oposterior teeth do not articulate;:Fi 2 is a view showing the removable attac mentapplied to compensate the mill-articulation of the posterior teeth; Fig. 3 is another view of jaws in which the posterior teeth do not articulate; Fig. 4 is a view showing the removable attachment applied to compensate the mail-articulation of the posterior teeth shown in Fig. 3; Fig. 5 is a sectional view taken on the line 55 of Fig. 1; Fig. 6 is a sectional View taken on the line 6-6 of'Fig. 2; Fig. 7 is a sectional view taken on the line 7-7 of Fig. 4; and Figs. 8 and 9 are the description and claim which follow here- The main object of this invention is to aws in which the perspective views of the removable attachment. I
The removable attachment 10 may be formed of any suitable or approved material, and it consists of a body'll adapted to occupy the space between the posterior teeth 12 and 12 in the jaws 13 and 13 when the teeth are brought together in the act of biting or chewing. The body 11 has at the edge thereof a flange 14 which extends substantially at right angles thereto and is adapted to fit against the sides of the teeth to assist in holding the body ll in place on the teeth 12. The outer surface of the body 11 is provided with projections 15 and depressions 16 corresponding to the sulci and cusps in the ends of the teeth 12, and the inner surface of the body 11 is provided with projections 15 and depressions 16' cor responding to the sulci and cusps in the ends of the teeth 12. At one or both ends of the body 11 an extension 17 on the flange 14 is adapted to fit around and clasp adjacent teeth 12'.
From the foregoing it will be understood that in use the outer surface of the body 11 and the teeth 12 are adapted to articulate, so that the attachment compensates the mal-articulation of the teeth 12 and 12'.
The attachment may be easily and cheaplv made with a minimum of inconvenience and loss of time onjthe part of the patient, since no treatment of or operation on the teeth 12 or 12 is necessary. When desired, the
attachment may be removed by simply lifting it off of the teeth 12.
I claim:
The herein-described removable attachment for compensating mal-articulation existing between the teeth in one jaw and thecorresponding teeth in the other jaw, consisting of a body adapted to occupy the space between the teeth in the one jaw and the corresponding teeth in the other jaw, said body having its outer side provided with projections and depressions corresponding to the sulci and cusps on the ends of the teeth in one of the jaws, and having its inner sides provided with projections and depressions corresponding to the sulci and cusps on the ends of the teeth in the other of the jaws, and said body having at the edgethereof it flange which extends substantially at of two subscribing witnesses at Los Angeles, right angles thereto and is adapted to fit county of Los Ange1es,State or California, against the teeth, said flange having an eX- this 28th day of April, A. D. 1914.

In testimony whereof, I have signed my A. H. LIDDERS, name to this specification in the presence ELLA SCOTT.-
