K. J. BESKOW & A. RAMPTN.
ROASTING FURNACE.
APPLICATION FILED AUG.18,1910.

KNUT JAKOB BESKOW AND ARTHUR RAD/TEN, OF HELSINGBORG, SWEDEN.
I ROASTING-FURNACE.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, KNU'r JAKon Bns- KOW and ARTHUR RAMIiN, chief engineers, subjects of the King of S wedenfresidmg at Siidi'a Storgatan 19, Helsingborg, in the Kingdom of Sweden, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Roasting- Furuaces, of'which the following is a specification.
The invention has for its object to provide a feeding device for introducing the material into roasting furnaces.
In'order toillustrate the invention a form of a furnace constructed in accordance with the present invention is shown on the accompanying drawing which shows the vertical section of the furnace.
l' is the brickwork of the furnace, suitably surrounded by a mantle 6 of metal and provided with arches 2 and 3 forming the top and the bottom of the same and 1t is also provided with intermediate arches or bottoms 4 and 5 (of any suitable number) by means of which the furnace is divided into several divisions or compartments.
7 is a. feeding funnel supported by shores 68 resting on beams 8 supported on the brickwork of the furnace. The lower mouth or outlet opening of said funnel is surrounded by a collar 9, adjustably fastened to the funnel by means of screws 10 in such a way, that the distance bet-ween its lower edge and a feeding table 11, arranged under the same can be ad'usted as required for regulating the supply of the material.
40 is a pin eccentrically fastened on said table and projecting into the mouth of the funnel in order to prevent stopping of the material.
The feeding table 11 is mounted on the upper end of a centrally located vertical, ro tating shaft 12 journaled in bearings 13 and 14. The lower or main part of said shaft may consist of atube, provided with open ings 39 for admitting air to enter into the same for its cooling,
15 are scrapers extending some distance over the periphery of the feeding table 11, and consisting of arms, which at their outer ends are adjustably fastened on standards 16 in such a way, that they by means of screws 17 can be secured in any desired position in order that the inner ends of said arms or scrapers proper may be brought to protrude more or less over the outer edge of the table. Thus, when the table is rotated and material Specification of Letters Patent.

is fed into the funnel 7, a desired quantity of the material (depending on the position of the scrapers) is by said scrapers continuously fed from the rotating table into the channels or tubes 18, that are arranged under the circumference of the table, and through which tubes the material fallsdown into the upper compartment or division 19 of the furnace. These channels or tubes may be provided with self closing shutters 42, pivotally fastened on bolts 41 and loaded with counter weights 73, which shut ters open automatically when a certain quantity of the material, fed into the tubes, has been accumulated upon them but are otherwise closed, through the action of the counterweights, thereby preventing gases from the furnace rising up through them.
For rotating the shaft 12 any suitable device may be used. In the drawings this device is shown as consisting of pulleys 30, mounted on one end of a rotating shaft 31, which on its other end is provided with a bevel-gear 32, which meshes with a bevelgear 33 mounted on the lower end of the shaft 12.
Having thus described our invention, We declare that what we claim is 1. In an ore-roastin furnace, the combination of a support or the ore, a hopper provided with a discharge orifice spaced above said support, whereby ore may be discharged from said orifice to form a pile upon said support until the pile thus formed closes said orifice, means for adjustably varying the space between said support, and said orifice, and means for removing a portion of the ore from the pile to permit a further discharge of ore from said orifice, substantially as and for the purpose de scribed.
2. In an ore roasting furnace the combina tion of a support for the ore consisting of a horizontal table fastened outside the furnace on the upper end of a rotatable Vertical shaft centrally arranged in the furnace and projecting outside the furnace, a hopper provided with a discharge orifice centrally arranged above said table and spaced above said orifice to form a pile upon said support until the pile thus formed closes said orifice and one or more adjustable scrapers protruding over the circumference of the said table.
3. In an ore roasting furnace the combination of a support for the ore consisting of a horizontal table fastened outside the furnace on tlie'upper end of a rotatable vertical shaft centrally arranged in the furnace and projecting outside the furnace, a hopper provided with a discharge orifice centrally arranged above said table and spaced above said orifice to forin a pile upon said support until the pile thus formed closes said orifice and one or more adjustable scrapers protruding; over the circum: ference of'th'e said table tubes leading the material scraped down'from said table into the furnace. Y 1 Y 4. In anore roasting furnace the combina tion of'a support for the ore consisting of a horizontal table fastened outside the furnac'e'on the upper end of a rotatable vertical s'haft eentrally arranged in thefurnace and projecting outside the furnace, a hopper said arranged above said table and spaced above said orifice to form a pile upon said support until the pile thus formed closes said orifice and one or more adjustable scrapers protruding over the circumference of the table, tubes leading the material scraped down from said table into the furnace, shut ters arranged in said tubes, counterweights acting upon said shutters and tending to keep them closed. a r
In witness whereof we have hereunto set our hands in presence of two witnesses KNUT JAKoB BE'SKOW.
