Description

s, M. NELSON.- l l CLOTHES RACK.
APPLICATION FILED APR. 11; 1913.
Patented July 21, 17914 WITNESSES SAMUEL M. NELSON, OF HOVLAND, MINNESOTA.
CLOTHES-RACK.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 21, 191e..
Application led April 1'1. 1913. Serial No. 760,439.
To all whom it may 'concern Beit known that I, SAMUEL M. NELSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Hovland, in the county of Cook and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Clothes-Racks, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to clothes racks and more particularly to that class which may be readily collapsed thereby adapting the same for convenient use with travelers, etc.
An object of thisinvention is the provision of a'plurality of telescoping sections Q upper extremity of suitably arranged so that the same may be secured to any suitable support and when the same is secured to a supportI the weight ot itself will hold it in open position thereby eliminating the use of hook and keepers of various types as has hereto ore been used in devices ot' this character.
Other objects as well as the ature, characteristic features and scope oilt my invention will be more readily understood trom the following-l description takenl in connection with the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the claim formingpa part ot this specification wherein t :MQ
Figure 1 is a side elevational view of my improved device showing the sections in 'open position; Fig. 2 is an end View ot the same; Fig. y3 is a cross sectional view ot the tubular end members when in a folded position; and Fig. 4 is a detail perspective view ot oneoi:l the side arms.
In the drawings is shown a plurality of telescoping sections each of which is provided with tubular end members 5 having cross arms (i suitably arranged therebetween and each ot' said cross arms being provided with a multiplicity of detachable studs 7 which are -adapted for supporting articles of various types. The uppermost of said sections has. a cross arm 8 secured to the its tubular end members,v this also being provided with a multiplicity of detachable stud members 7 the same as in the other cross arms7 and is further provided with a plurality of ears 9 in which are formed openings so thatv the same may be secured to a suitable support through the medium of a nail, etc., and when suspended in this manner the sections will be in an open position as shown to advantage in Fig. 1. A pair of side arms l0 are carried by the up ermostsection in close proximity to the cross arm 8 the same 'being pivotally mounted thereon so as to be conveniently folded inwardly *when the rack is desired to be entirely collapsed.
This rack is made of any suitable material preferably aluminum thereby forming a comparatively light device which may be vconveniently carried in a suit case, trunk,
etc., and having the studs 7 detachable so that the same may be readily removed when it is desired to pack the same for shipment, etc., making a relatively tlat device.
It will be understood that the above description and accompanying drawings comprehend only the general and preferred .embodiment of my invention and that various minor changes in details of construction, proportion and arrangement of the parts may be made within the scope of the ap-' pendcd claim and without sacrificing any of the advantages of my invent-ion.
Having thus fully described my inven. tion what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is A rack comprising a frame having side bars, suspending means for said frame to support vthe same in a vertical plane, secondary frames having side bars telescoping into each other and into the side bars otisaid first frame, said secondary frames being adapted to drop into extended position upon suspension of said tirst frame,'and
clothes supporting pins carried by each frame.
In testimony whereof I alix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
SAMUEL M. NELSON.
