Application filed Angnsi 5,
To whomit may conceive Be it known that I, Eowses Homtemii, a citizen of the United States, residing Ghindorf, in the county of Putnem and n Improvements in Tooth-Brushes or hich the following is a specification.
The invention, relates to tooth hrnsims, and has for an object to provide a tooth brush of the collapsible type and 'i'vhich can he conveniently carried in the pocket in the same manner :i fountain pen or conven icntiy peckeo. in a grip, the tooth brush heoonstmotedso that the brush body normziiiy inciosed in a casing to retain the some in a sanitary and clean condition,
The invention embodies, among other fee-- tures, the provision of a tooth brush which can he cheaply manufactured and. which includes a casing containing e brush body a1-- ranged to slide into and out of the casing siid'whorehy the casing will constitute s hendie fox *he brush body when the same is in use, the object being to provide a sanitary tooth brush wherein the brush body when not in use will not come in contact with foreign matter which would tend to he hat-iii.- ful to the teeth wi'icn the brush is applied thereto or make the brush ul'isanitary enduinit for use in the further disclosure of the invention reference is to be had to the eccon'ipeiiying l swings, constituting; a pm'hcf this specifintion, in which siinihu ohareeteix ence'denoto corresponding ports T. Views and in which: i
Figure 1 is e pei's 'icctive View of the tooth brush the brush body being shown in chased position the cop being shown removed from the cosi Fig-z 2 "ticai. iongi u dine! sections. in. position and ready ifi-I is a fragmentary vertical secth showing the positiim of the 100 hee within the casing W 1011 the brush is'in close position with respect to the casing; and F 4r a perspective View the locking heed Referring more particularly to the views, I provide a cesing -10 fidziptfli to constitute a suitable hnndiefthe said casing being open at one end amiof a size substantially siinihir to the size of a fountain pen h'ody. A'bmsh body 11v is carried on a shanh 12 terminet ing in a locking head 13 aeiepted to slide norm position in the casing, will ohm? t the inner end of the casing so that rush loo fly Wiii lie Wholly Within the casing shown, the shell 12 adjacent the outer end of the brush body 11 being rovioieci. with e notch 14- Which is ad'npte to be exposed. when the brush body is in closed position by cutting away a portion 15 of the easing 30 as shown in Fig. 1; so that the use g, ting and WithiEHW- the .i 1 body from the casing", as wiii he ceediiy understood, A cap 16 normally closes the cesing 10' when the brush body 11 is contained therein, the seici cop b ng adapted to he pieced upon the closed, enri of the casing; when the brush body is in open position, The under side of the ioehing head 13 is provided with. an arclike recess 17 end secured. in the recess at the media} portion thereof is e spring-like member 18 terminating at its ends in knobs 19 which rideon one of the inner feces of the casing 10- Wh-en the brush body is ithdrawn from. closed position with respect to the casing one of tie sziici hnohs 19 being etiapted to spring into on opening 20 formed in the casing when the brush body is withdrawn foiuse so as to lock the brush body in open V "with ices iect the casing, as shown 10, thus entireiy inciosing the and preventing, any chrt or dust from en sired i ing the casin hhe hr sh'hc rom the cos 10 and place i 3: thereof so that the casing wiii constitute e suitehie hsndie now e Y:
7 When it is de- I. body time he hooking head 13 n' iti the casing nntii one of the knobs 19 of the spring-like nemher l8 springs into the opening 26 thus rigidly locking the brush hody in open position with respect to the casing. completed the operation of brushing his" teeth he presses egeinetthe outer eni of "the brush hociy. hos ceasing the knob project ing through the opening 20 to he removed therefrom and the brush body 11 will thh n slide hack into the casing eite'r Whicht ,e cap 16 is i'emovei from the closed enci of t e easing; pieced upon theopen emi thereort i? ii into the notch' it into id's to entirely inclose the brush body Within the casing.
The casing and cap can be preferably made of aluminum or any other suitable metal which will not rust and which will present a neat appearance and the locking head and shank carrying the brush body can also be made of aluminum or any other suitable material.
The device described can be readily car- 'ried in the pocket in the same manner as the ordinary fountain pen and will not take up much room in a grip or satchel.
By having the brush body normally inclosed by the casin any dust or dirt will be prevented from ad iering to the brush body -when the same is not in use and the brush body will not come in contact with foreign substances if the same is placed in a grip or satchel or in the pocket 01 the user.
Having thus described my invention, I claim:
As a new article of manufacture, a tooth brush comprising a casing having one end open and partially cut away, a brush body,
of the casing, one of the arms of the spring member being adapted to have an end roject into a depression in the casing to ock the-brush body in extended position and the other arm being adapted to abut against the wall of the casing to hold the locking head against sidewise movement Within the easn testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
