BOX FOR BADGES.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 14, 1914.
1 Application filed May 26, 1913. Serial No. 769,997.
To all to 710m it may concern: Be it known that I, HENRY 0. Mix, a citizen of the United States, residing at Nassau, in the county of Lao qui Parle and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Boxes'for Badges; and I do herebydeclare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in display cabinets, and asits principal object contemplates the provision of an article of this type which is particularly designed for the reception of badges and novelties of a similar nature.
A further object is to provide a display cabinet so constructed that when the articles are not on view the various elements of the cabinet may be arranged to protect the alrticles contained within the cabinet from net.
A still further object of this invention resides in the construction of the device with such regard to proportion, number and arrangement of parts that it may be cheaply manufactured, will be durable and eflicient in its operation, and will occupy a minimum amount of space.
The above and additional objects are accomplished by such means as are illustrated in the accompanying drawings, described in the following specification, and then more particularly pointed out in the claim which is appended hereto and forms a part of this application.
With reference to the drawings, wherein I have illustrated the preferred form of my invention, as it is reduced to practice, and throughout the several views of which similar numerals of reference designate corresponding parts: Figure 1 is a perspective view of the two boxes of the cabinet illustrated in partially open position. Fig. 2 is a section on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1, illustrating in detail the manner in which the badge plates of one box are removably mounted. Fig. 3 is a horizontal section of the cabinet turned with the two boxes in closed position. Fig. 4 is a detail view, illustrating the blank from which the hook plates are constructed. Fig. 5 is a detail view illustrating the hook plate after the various elements of the blank have been bent into assembled position. Fig. 6 is a section on the line 6-6 of Fig, 5. Fig. 7 is a detail view, illustrating a badge applied to one of the hook members. illustrating in detail the hook plate with a badge, in supported relation thereto.
Proceeding now to the description of the drawings, the preferred embodiment of this cabinet is formed in two hingedly connected box sections, designated as entireties in Fig. 1 by the numerals 1 and 2 and connected as at 3 and 4.-.by any suitable type of hinge.
Inasmuch as the boxes 1 and 2 are similar in construction, it is deemed necessary to describe only one of them in detail, the box 1 being chosen in this instance. The member 1 includes the side walls 5 and 6, top and bottom walls 7 and'8, and the rear wall, not discernible in the drawings, but the edge of which is indicated by the numeral 9. The box is divided into two compartments by'a vertically arranged partition wall 10, soldered, riveted, or otherwise secured to the bottom walls 7 and 8, and rear wall 9, in any suitable or desired manner.
Within each compartment of the box formed by the partition Wall 10, is mounted a badge holding hook plate which carries a number of badge suporting hooks.
The blank from which each of the hook plates is formed, and one of which is designated in Fig. 1 by the numeral 11, is substantially rectangular in shape, and is provided with a plurality of nested substantially V-shaped slits, the divergent cuts being designated by the numerals 12 and 13, and the laterally extending slits or cuts designated by the numeral 14. By reference to Fig. 5, it will be observed that the terminal portion of each of the hook members, designated by the numeral 15, is bent on a line coincident with the lateral out line 1.41: of the next adjacent hook. The terminals 16 of each hook 15 is preferably bent to extend an approximate angle of 15 to the members 15, although the angular relation of the member 16 to the member 15 is purely an arbitrary matter, and is governed entirely by the nature of the article to be placed in the cabinet. In this connection it is desirable to emphasize the fact that while the cabinet of this invention has been designed with particular reference to the needs of badges and similar novelties, it may, nevertheless, be readily employed in many other connections. To enumerate in part, it may be employed by jewelers as a cabinet for Fig. 8 is a side elevation holding watches, or might be readily utilized by druggists as a comb and brushcabi net.

- in this connection. The strips are arranged angularly within the compartments, and eX- tend upwardly atan approximate angle of 45 from a point approximately; midway of the rear wall 9' and the front edge of the member'7. It will be observed that by arranging the badge plates llin these channel shapedguides, that they may be'readily removed to bend the hook members in any desired manner, or to place the articles on the hooks before disposing the plates in the cabinet.
A hasp 19 and a handle 20 may be pro videdifor the boxes for an obvious purpose. a In reduction to practice, I have found that -T the form ofmy invention, illustrated in the 3 drawings and referred to inthe above descripti'omjas the preferred embodiment, is 5 produce the most eiiicient and practical; realizficing any of the advantages of my invention, as defined in the appended claim.
WVhat is claimed is:
y The hereindescribed supporting platefor badges comprising a metal plate having a 40. nested j series of V-shaped slits formed therein to provide a series of hooks, said hooks beingbent outwardly fr0m,the plate and theapexportions of'the V -sha ped memf l bers being bent at an inclination to the body Qof the hook to support the badges, and they fapices of the hook members being disposed toward the bottom of the plate. 1 In testimony whereof I afiix my signature 50 lin presence of two witnesses.
