noon CHECK AND HINGE.
Application filed January 29, 1913.
To all cuhom it may concern Be it known that I, PAUL Miinksorr, locksmith, a subject of the German Emperor,;
and residing at 37 Griinthalerstrasse, Berlin, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Door Check and Hinges, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to a combined hinge and door check specially designed to be used with doors which open in both directions, the device being constructed so that the door is prevented from moving away too widely from the door post.
A further object of the present invention is to reduce as far as possible the number of moving parts, avoid joints and yet obtain a reliable andpermanent guidance of the check piston in the checking cylinder and a reliable connection between the door and the post.
In the accompanying drawing a constructional form of the present invention is exemplified.
Figure 1 is a front of a hinge secured to the door post, the door being in open position. Fig. 2 is a plan of the device, Fig. 3 is a plan of the device folded together into closed position.
The plate 1 of the hinge is secured to the door post 2, and the plate 3 is secured to the door wing 4. The plates 1 and 3 are connected to the shafts 5 and have sleeves 6 and lugs 7 The sleeves 6 are provided with a slot 8. Through these slots 8 the lugs 7 may be engaged into the sleeves 6 and by being turned therein, form a bayonet-like lock.
Each shaft 5 is provided in known manner with a screw thread which engages into the corresponding thread of the piston 9, which is axially displaceable but not rotatable in the checking cylinder 10, which contains a fluid. This fluid is used for checking the piston and is compressed in the usual manner by the piston and controlled by known devices.
The checking cylinders are connected to each other by means of a bridge 11, and the shafts are rotatably journaled in them. The bottom 12 of each checking cylinder is provided with a channel, in which a pin 13 is secured. The pins 13 project into the cylinders and engage on one side in grooves 14 in the walls of the cylinders and on the other side in grooves 15 of the pistons 9, for the Specification of Letters Patent.

. purpose of preventing the pistons from rotating within the cylinders 10. The arrange- -ment of the pins 13 in the bottoms of the cylinders 10 allows of making the cylinders 10, their bottoms and the bridge 11 connecting the cylinders with each other in one piece and thereby still further reducing the number of individual pieces.
At the position of the door shown in Fig. 3 the lug 7 of the plate 3 engages in the sleeve 6 of the plate 1 and the lug 7 of the plate 1 engages in the sleeve 6 of the plate 3. When the door is opened and swung to the right into the position shown in Figs. 1 and 2 the lug 7 of the plate 3 will be disengaged from the sleeve 6 of the plate 1, while the lug 7 of the plate 1 turns in sleeve 6 of the plate 3, is guided therein and prevents the door moving away from the post. When the door is swung to the left the lug of the plate 3 is coupled in a similar manner with the sleeve 6 of the plate 1. The lugs 7 are preferably made to correspond in shape with the lower ends of the cylinders so as to gi ve the hinge a uniform appearance.
The essential feature of the invention consists in that a lug 7 of either plate 1 or 3 engages in a member of the other plate 3 or 1' having the form of a double-straphinge. This arrangement may also be employed with hinges, which are provided with the sleeves 6 and the lugs 7 only and have no cylinders.
I claim:
1. In a hinge, the combination with the door and door frame, of two plates, one of the said plates secured to the rear edge of the door, the other of the plates secured to the door frame, each plate having a lug secured to one side of the same, a sleeve secured to the other side of the respective plate and bearing a slot in its head to receive the corresponding lug, two shafts secured to the said sleeves respectively, and a coupling member rotatably and undisplaceably mounted on and adapted to swing around each of the said shafts.
2. In a combined hinge and door check, the combination with the door and door frame, of two plates, one of the said plates secured to the rear edge of the door, the other of the plates secured to the door frame, each plate having a lug secured to one side of the same, a sleeve secured to the other side of the respective plate and bearing a slot in its head to receive the corresponding member and respectively rotatablymounted on the respective shafts and adapted to engage the threads on the sald shafts, a groove arranged-in the cylinder Wall a groove arranged in the said piston, a channel arranged in the 'bottom of the said cylinder 10 and terminating in the said groove, and a pin screwed in the said bottomprojecting into the said groove and adapted to prevent the rotation of the said piston.
