UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JAMES O. BILLING, OF HALOYON DALE, GEORGIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN FLOWS.
.Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 1i0,336, dated December 20, 1870.
the State of Georgia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Plows; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full,
clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a plow, as will be hereinafter fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to :make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawings, in which- Figure l is aside view from the mold-board side, and Fig. 2 is a side view from the land side'. Fig. 3 is a bottom view of the front end of the mold-board. Fig. 4 is a rear elevation of the plow. Fig. 5 is a section immediately yin rear of the plow-stock, and Fig. 6 is a perspective View of the landside.
A represents the plow-beam, at the rear end of which are secured the handles B B, one on each side of the beam, one bolt, a., passing through the whole. Above the beam A the handles spread outward and are held a proper The lower ends of the handles B B, below the plow-beam, are, by means of a bolt, d, secured together,-
and also to the rear end of the landside-bar C.
At a suitablepoint on the beam A from the under side, in front of the handles, is inserted a tenon formed on the upper end of the stock D. To the lower end of this stock the bar C is also secured by a bolt, e, the stocky being cut out, so as to let in the bar O and form a shoulder, x, above the same, against which shoulder the bar bears and is thus held firmly. (See Fig. 5.) The bar C extends a suitable distance in front of the stock D, and its upper front edge is curved, as shown in Figs. 2 and 6, having an ear, j, projecting inward from the same. In a hole through this ear is inserted a lug or pin, i, on the under side ofthe wing G, which is secured to the stock D by means of a bolt, h. The front side of the stock is provided with an offset or shoulder, 1, against which the upper edge of the wing G bears to give said wing more steadiness and firmness. The wing G is constructed as shown in the drawings, forming both the point and the mold-board of the plow. At the joint between this wing and the front end of the bar C is an offset, k, as shown in Fig. 8, which assists in holding it steady.
The wing G may be made of different sizes, to be attached to the same stock and bar for different kinds of work.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The within-described plow, consisting ofthe beam A, handles B B, standard D, landside O, with ear f, and share G, all the parts being constructed, arranged, and operating substantially as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the forgoing I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 6th day of September, 1870.
