It will therefore be understoodthat when the vertical movable rod Gis in y theposition shown in Figs. 2 and 6 of the drawing the circuit extending from the binding posts F 4 and F 5 is closed so that all the lamps F are lighted. lVhcn however the rod G is moved upwardly so that the contactpiece G14 is carried between the fingers G2 and G, the circuit is closed from the ybinding posts F2 and F3 so as to light the lamp' F. The previously described circuit `through the lamps F is of course'opened simultaneously.

It will of course be understood that while the paper and tilm are being adjusted the lamp F is lighted so as to throw an orange or ruby light through the transparent window A3, serving to give the operatorA sufficient light to make the required adjustment with the shutter in the raised position. The rod G is held in its upper position by the catch G15 engaging the notch G2* in this position. The contact piece G1" is held between the spring ingers G2 and G completing the circuit through the lamp F. When the shutter is closed so as to cover the lm and paper, the end Inl3 of the arm II2' engages the catch Gl'so as to release the catch from the notch G24. The spring I which is previously brouglitinto engagement with the upper end of the extension G of the bar G forces the bar GG downwardly, overcoming the upward pressure of the spring G12. fI;`he rod GG is then carried downwardly and the contact piece between the fingers Gr and G, thereby breaking the circuit through the lamp F and completing the circuit thro-ugh the lamp F. The shutter lis locked in its closed position by the spring catch H4 engaging the catch piece Il". T he photograph is then printed by means of the light from the lamps F and when suiiicient time has H4, releasing the catch Il". The shutter member C then instantly springs upward by means of the spring J, thereby simultaneously releasing the bar G from the pressure spring J and allowing the spring Gs tocarry the bar G upwardly. I am aware that photo printing trames have been devised in which an outer frame .has been used having an opening for daylight printing, one oflhe sides of the open- In this form the ".a'tgfany predetermined speed and the degree @oi exposure depends on such rate of speed andthe size of the opening.
AIn my invention, which is for printing from an artificial lamp orlight,'ldo not wish to make anyprovisitm whereby the size of 'the opening` may be changed in order to provide a more or less quick exposure.
My invention is particuli-tidy designed to provide a simple and efficient means whereby `a margin of a.det'ermined width, that is to say, what is ordinarily termed a. White margin may be deliinitated clearly on the four sides of a print ofy any size within certain limits depending on the mahine.
What I claim my invention is.
` 1. In a photographic printing appa 'atusV the combination with a casing, a table. cover for the casing having a suitable window therein and designed to support a negative and printing paper, of an adjustable frame designed to extend around the window to protect the marginal edges of the paper, a

In a vphotographic printing apparatus, the combination with a casing .having a c1-oss"p'artition, printing lights located at one'side of the window, an exhibiting light located at the opposite side of the partition, a covering for the casing having a` window lccatedrover the printingdights, an adjustable frame extending around and over the edges of' the window, an upper pair of opposing Contact fingers, a lower pair of' op-v posing contact fingers located vertically bcneath the aforesaid contact fingers, means for resiliently slipporting .the rod in its upper position, a covering shutter extendingover the window and the edges of the adjustable frame, a finger extending `from the shutter designed tonorinally en- -gage with the top of the. vertical-@movable rod when the shutter is closed to carry the rod vertically downward, and

20. ln a photographic printing device the combination with a support or frame having a printing opening, and a light admittingsupport for the negative located therein, of anauxiliary adjustable trame portion eomprising a right angular plate stationary as to any lateral movement, and projecting over the two adjacent sides of the opening, stop plates or butts located on top of the platel raisa and in from the edges thereof, against which the printing paper is designed to abut to determine-its position as and forthe purpose specified.

In a photographic printing device the combination with a suitable support or frame and a. light admitting support for the negative supported therein, of a right angue lar plate stationary as to any lateral movement and projecting over the two adjacent Vedges of the opening, being so placed as to` come between the negative j and printing paper insuring a definite white margin upon the two adjacent edges of for the purpose specified.

In a photographic printing device, the` combination with a support or :trame having a printing opening and a light admitting support for the negative located therein, of an auxiliary adjustable frame made of thin non-actinic material extending around and projecting over the edges of the printing opening, one part of the auxiliary frame being raisable to permit of placing the edge .of the negative beneath it,and the other parts, on the remaining sides of the opening, each being independently adjustable besuitable support orv the paper as and edges of the printing opening, one part of the auxiliary. frame being raisable to permit ot' the edges-of the negative being inserted beneath it, and having a normal tendency to spring downwardlyagainst the negative to hold it in the position in which it is placed, the other parts`4 of the frame on the remaining sides of the-"opening being adjustable beneath the negative to the size of the picture to be printed, and all placed in such a manner as to form a printing` mask and insure a white margin around the edges of the paper while printing, as specified. 25. In a photographic printing device a right angular masking portion and two coacting adjustable masking portions, such right. angular portion haring degree marks thereupon to *show the size to which the printing' opening is adjusted, as specified..
