Description

itlnitdr geen HENRY F. BAKER, OF CENTREVILLE, INDIANA.
Leners Patent Ne. 110,333, dated Deeember 2o, 1870.
IMPROVEMENT IN COMBINED LAND-ROLLERS AND MARKERS.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part o! the same.
To all whom it may concern;
Be it known that I, HENRY F. BAKER, of Centreville, in the county ot \Vayne and State of Indiana, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Combined Land-Roller and Marker; and I do hereby declare that the following is afull, clear, and exact ldescription of the construct-ion and operation ot' the same, reference being had to the annexed drawing making a part of this specication and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure l of the drawing is a representation ofmy eld-roller in plan view, and
Figure 2 is a transverse vertical section ot' the same.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a field-roller 'combined with suitable device for laying oil` the ground both ways.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertaius to make and use the same, I will new proceed to describe its construction and operation.
A represents the frame of my machine, iliade of any suitable dimensions, and having the roller B' mounted within the same.
In the center of the roller B, directly opposite each other, are placed two shovels or shares, a a, and on each side otl both of these shovels is a sliding bar, b, inserted in the roller.
These bars l1 b can be adjusted at any desired point to or from the center of the roller by nieans of the screws e e, and to each of said bars is another shovelY a lever, C, which extends forward across the roller -near the center, and is supported above the same on a standard, D.
On the under side of this lever is a pin, f, which, by the letting down of the lever, is made to enter holes in the roller B, for a purpose that will be presently described..
,In the front part of the frame is an'adj nstable bar, E, extending beyond both sides of the frame, and provided at its ends with rods l; le'.
On one end ot' the roller B are two pins, i i, which, as lthe roller revolves, raise a spring, la, attached to the frame.
This spring is for the purposeof giving notice that the shovels or shares are properly in the ground,
that the driver may see that the indicator points to the check-hill in front of the roller.
If the roller has gained or lost, the driver will pull down the lever G so that the pin f will enter one of thevholes near the center of the roller, which will stop the roller from revolving until the indicator points to the proper hill.
Having thus fully described my invention,
lVllat I claim as new, and desire tosecure `by Letters Patent, is
l. The sliding bars b Ib, provided with shovels a a', and adjusted at any desired distance from the center in the roller B, substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
2. 'lhe roller B, provided with stationary shovels a a and adj nstable shovels a a', substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
3. In combination with the roller B, constructed as described, the lever C with pin f, substantially for the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
HENRY F. BAKER.
Witnesses:
