Description

I. "el AN anni scream cifra RUSSEL M. SEAN-nir, or` canoa,l oHIo.
Letters Pennino. trazos, dated December 20,1870.
IMPROVEMENT INV HQOP-RACKIN'G MACHINES.
To allv'whom it may concern:
Be it 1 known that I,RUssEn M. SHANEIa-fof Genoa, in the Acounty of Ottawa and State of Ohio, Y have invented'a new and improved Hoop-Racking Machine; and I do hereby declare that the following is afull, clean-,Pand exact description thereof, which willenable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming part of this speelication. v
'l' his invention relates to improvements in machines for racking hpops, and consists in an arrangement, with a channeled bench and a pushing apparatus for forcing the pieces of -timber along the channel, of an inclined plane, a xed racking-roller, and a verticallymovable roller, arranged to he forced down `riponthe piece 'of timber to he racked as it vfis forced between the vrollers and up the incline, so that it is subjected to an' abrupt bending at all points from end to end, by
which the layers are racked apart.
Similar letters ot' reference indicate corresponding parts. A represents a long bench, having` a deep narrow groove or channel, B, in the top, .extending from one end nearly to the other, which may he'formed in any approved way. Y
f A(J is a pusher-block, fitted to be moved along in the said channel, and connected by cords or belts D with a drum, E, adapted to wind up the cord and draw the said pusher with great force.
F is an inclined plane placed Ain the bottom of said The Schedule referred top'in these Letters Patent and making part-of .the same.
groove, a shortdistauce behind the drum E; -and behind the upper end of this-plane is a roller, G; arranged in xed bearings.
Between this roller and the drum, and above the inclined plane, is a roller, H, mounted in the vertically-moving frame I,- which frame extends below the top of the bench and has a foot-lever, K, attached -itis so cramped and bent that the layers ot' the wood will be'separated from each other as they ,are sepalrated when similarly bent in the common process of racking by hand.V v
The operation is very greatly facilitated by the use of this'apparatus.` Y
Having thus described my invention,
I claim asf new and desire to secure by Letters Patentlhe combination of the channeled bench, pusher, inclined plane, rollers G and H, and the vertically-A reeiprocating frame and footlever, all substantially as specified.
yRUSSEL M.- SHANER.
