The operation of my improved machine for cleaning the streets is as followsz' The forward movement of the wheels A will, through the bands @c y s and pulleys n', NV, s', t, a', and

fr, produce a rotation of the sweeper l and fan Cl in the direct-ions indicated by arrows 1 and 2, the fan creating a strong suctioncurrent from the chamber l through the passage I and an equally strongdriving-eurrent from the fan-chamber Il through the channel I leading to the chamber l). 'lhe revolution et the sweeper drives the dust upon the apron' b in the direction of arrow 3 and within the influence of the suction from the fan, which drawsthe dust through the chamber l1 into the channel I, as shown by arrows 4 and 5.

`Issuing from thechannel I the dust enters the fan-'chamber Il at its' outerside and is ejected into the channel I', as shown by arrow 7, through which it passes, as shown by arrow 8, vand issues into the chamber I), as shown by arrow 9, Fig. 3, the finely-retienlated cover S permitting the escape of the air, while the dust remains-in the chamber D, which when filled is emptied bythe door 1X.l 'It the rodf'i be drawn,as indicated by arrow 10, the valve E will slide t'remV the opening t and the water with which the tank is filled 4willvpa'ss into the pipe G and thence to the perforated discharging-cylinder F, from which it issues in a multitude of .jets in the usual manner and sprinkles the street after it has been cleaned by the'sweeping arrangement.

Stones that may be thrown upon the apron b by the sweeper and drawn over its upper extremity by the suction of the fan' will fall removed by the door l. v The arrangement of the details of the noncssarily be asabove described, as the most suitable'arrangement can only be arrived at by experiment.

I do not claim the rotary brush or the apron, as such have been used before in machines ol' this character. Neitherdo I claim of itself the revolving fan or blower; but
