To all whom it may concewr: v
Be it known that I, LOUIS C. HAMEL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Appleton, in the county of Outagamie and btate of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Vindmill- Oilers, of which the following is a speciication.
vThis invention relates to windmills and has for its object to provide a noveland improved lubricating device in connection with the pump rod, said device being entirely automatic in its operation. This object 1s attained by means of a combination and arrangement of arts to be hereinafter described and claimed, and' in order that the invention may be better understood, reference is had to the accompanying-drawings in which- Figure l is a side elevation of a fragment of the head or u per ortion of a win mill; Fig. Qis an en arge vertical section at a right angle to the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Referrlng specifically to the drawings, 10 denotes theA swiveled head of a windmill having a horizontal bearing 11 for the wheel shaft 12 which drives the pump rod 13, said shaft carrying a wrist-wheel 14 which is connected, by means of a pitman 15, to a plunger' 16 carried by the upper end of the pump rod. The head carries a tubular slide- Iway 17 for the plunger, said slideway having a side slot 18 in which the connection 19 between the plunger and the pitman works. The upper end of the plunger 16 is formed with a pocket 20 which serves as an oil cup, the same moving up and down with the lunger when the latter is in motion. Projecting down into the slideway 17 is Aan oil distributer 21, the same 'comprising a fiat spring which is hooked over the top edge of the slideway, and is held in place by a lcap 22 fitting over the top of the slideway.
In operation, when the oil cup 20 rises, the free or loose lower end of the spring 21 passes into the cup and dips into the oil therein. As the oil cup moves downward, away from the spring, the oil clinging to the spring is ap lied by the latter to the wall of the slidewa by the spring touching said wall. Thus all parts at this point are lubricated automatically and any surplus oil is scraped or shaved off the` slideway when .the cup rises, the to edge of the latter being beveled to a s arpedge as /indioatedat--QQE'- The spring is tensioned to bea-r normally against the wall of the slideway, and its tree end has a slight outward bend as shown 1n F ig. 2 which is engaged by the beveled edge 22 when the cup rises, whereupon the spring is forced inward so that it moves inward away from` the wall of the slideway anddips into the cup as the latter continues to rise.
I claim:
1. A lubricator comprising a vertically re- Vciprocatory plunger having an oil cu at yits upper end,.a tubular slideway in which the plunger works, and an oil distributer mounted in the slideway to dip into the oil cup on the up stroke of the plunger. v
2. A lubricator comprising a vertically reciprocatory plungerhaving an oil cu at its upper end, a tubular slideway in wh1oh the p unger works, and an oil distributer mounted in the slideway, said distributer being normally in contact with the wall of the slideway, and dipping into the oil cup and moving outward from said wall on the up stroke of the plunger.
3. A lubricator comprising a vertically reciprocatory plunger having an oil cup at its upper end, a tubular slideway in which the plunger works, and an oil distributer mounted in the slideway, said distributer being normally in Contact with the wall of the slideway, and in the path of the cu and engageable thereby to move outward irom said wall and dip into .the cup on the up stroke of the plunger.
4. A lubricator comprising a vertically reciprocatory plunger having an oil cup at its up er end, a tubular slideway in which the p unger works, and an oil distributer mounted in the slideway, saiddistributer comprising a resilient member secured at its upperv end and having its lower end free and in the path of the cup to dip thereinto on the up stroke of the plunger', said member being normally in contact with the wall of theslidewa .y Y t 5. A ubricator comprising a vertically reciprocatory plunger having an oil cup. at its -upper end, a tubular slideway in which the plunger.y works, andan voil distributer mounted in the slideway, said distributer comprising a resilient member normally in contact with the wall of the slideway and made fast thereto,its lower-end bein free and in the path of the cupto dip thereinto on the and in the'path of the cup to dip thereinto on the up stroke of the plunger, said free end 0f the member having an outward bend engageable by the top edge of the cup, seid 15 edge being beveled.
