provide an opening therethrough for the passage of a pipe 2, which may form a conductor for steam or other fluid or a conduit To all whom it may concern 1 Be it known that 1, WILLIAM J. SEDEL- BAUER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Toledo, in the county of Lucas and State of Ohio, have invented a certain new and useful Floor-Tube; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the characters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to tubes for use in concrete flooring, walls or the like, and through which pipes may be passed, but is not restricted to such use as it may be used in any connection for which it may be adapted or appropriate.
The object of my invention is the provision of a tube of this character which is simple and inexpensive in its construction, and adapted to be set in a floor, wall or the like during a forming thereof and to provide means for firmly anchoring the tube in the concrete and also for centering a steam or other pipe therein in spaced relation to the tube wall, the space at one or both ends of the tube around the pipe serving to recelve the adjacent end of a pipe jacket.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a tube of this character which is adjustable to suit floors or walls of difierthus enlarging the scope of usefulness and enhancing its practicability and commercial value.
The invention is fully described in the following specification, and while, in its broader aspect, it is capable of embodiment in numerous forms, a preferred embodiment thereof is illustrated in the accompanying tube, in the present instance, comprises the body member 3 and the extension member 4,
The member 3 is preferably made of sheet metal or other suitable material in the form of a tube and is provided in spaced relation to its ends with a plurality of inwardly depressed portions 5 forming interior points which cooperate to center a pipe 2 within the member in spaced relation to its walls, as shown in Figs. 1 and 3. The space 6, which is provided, in the present instance, at the lower end of the member 3 between it and the pipe 2, serves to receive the upper end portion of a pipe jacket 7 of asbestos or other suitable material. The extension of the jacket 7 in the space 6 permits the jacket to lower by reason of shrinkage or contraction without exposing a crack or opening, due to such lowering, to the interior of the room, as is customarily the case when the jacket abuts at its end against the under or inner side of the flooring or wall 1. The outer or lower end of the member 3, in the present instance, may be provided with an outwardly turned bead 8 to give the same a finished appearance and to facilitate the projection of an end of the jacket 7 therein. It is preferable to make the space be- .tween the inner or upper end of the member 3 and the inwardly depressed portions 5 thereof of greater length than the space 6 to permit of a greater range of relative adjustment of the two members 3 and 4, if both of such members are used, to suit the thickness of the flooring or wall 1 in which the tube is disposed. The member 4: of the tube is preferably made of slightly contracted or conical form at its outer end, as at 9, to prevent a withdrawal of the same from the flooring or wall 1 after being set therein, and is provided at the outer end of such portion with a collar 10 which fits closely around the pipe 2 and extends radially therefrom without the member with its outer edge preferably given a quarter turn to enable it to have edgewise contact with the adjacent surface of the flooring or wall 1.
It will be understood that if desired the member 3 may be either used alone or with the extension member 1, and that the inner Figure 1 is a section of the flooring with a tube embodying the invention in use therein. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of one of the members of the tube, and Fig. 3 is an enlarged view thereof with a pipe disposed therein.
Referring to the drawings, 1 designates a flooring, wall or the like, preferably of concrete or other similar material of a nature adapting it to harden when allowed to stand after being molded.
