FAN.
Specification of Letters Patent.
. Patented June 16", 1914.
To all whom it may concern 1 Be it known that I, J OHN F CARD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Three Rivers, Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fans, of which the following is a specification. I
This invention rel-ates to improvements in fans.
My improvements are particularly designed by me for circulating air through electric motors, and I have shown the same as embodied in an electric motor, although my improvements are desirable for and may be readily adapted for use in other relations.
The main object of-this invention is to provide an improved fan structure which is very effective and at the same time, is simple in structure and not likely to get out of repair in use. V
' Further objects, and objects relating to structural details, will definitely appear from the detailed description to follow.
I accomplish the objects of my invention by the devices and means described in the following specification. .The invention is clearly defined and pointed out in the claims.
A structure which is a preferred embodiment of my invention is clearly illustrated' in the accompanying drawingforming a part of'this specification, in which:
Figure I is a side elevation of a motor embodying, the features of my invention. Fig. II is a detail longitudinal section on a line corresponding to line 2-2 of Fig. III, the motor shaft 4 being shown in full lines. Fig. III is a cross section on a 'line' corresponding to line 3-3 of Fig. II. Fig. IV is a plan of one of the fan blade blanks. Fig. V is a perspective View of one of the blades. i
In the drawing. similar, reference-characters refer to similar parts throughout the several views, and the sectionalv views are taken looking in the direction of the little arrows at the ends of the section lines.
Referring to the drawing, the'casing 1 is provided with a central body portion and end portions 2 and 3 having suitable bearingstherein for the shaft 4. The end portions 2 and 3 are provided with openings for the cir-.
culation of air. The electrical connections are not illustrated The armature core .5 is
mounted on the shaft t to revolve therewith. The mountings ofthepoles 6 are not illusedge of the flange bein fingers at t itzrated as they form. no part of this invenion. i
The -core.5 is provi'ded with a rin -11Ke flange 7 ,the inner edge of the flange ei'ng spaced from .the shaftas illustrated. The
' Having thus described my invention, what I claim is new and desire to secure by Lettially the width of the flange, said casing being provided with an internal annular rib in the plane of the flange, the outer ends of the blades revolving close to the edge of the rib. I i
2. The combination of a casing, a rotor having aring-like flange thereon, the inner edge of the flange being spaced from the r0- tor shaft; and a plurallty of sheet metal fan blades provided with integral segmental body portions arranged on said flange edge to edgeand having integral securing flanges at their, inner ends and at each side of the blades folded over the edges of. the flange for securing theblades thereto, the length of said body portions being substantially the width of the flange.
3. The combination of a casing, av rotor hav'inga ring-like flange'thereon, the inner edge of the flange being spaced from the rotor shaft; and a plurality of sheet metal fan blades provided with integral, body portions arranged on said flange and having integral securin 'fingers folded over the edges of the flange For secnrin the blades thereto, said casing being provi ed with aninternal annular r1b in the lane of the flange, the
outer ends of the b ades revolving close to the ed e of the rib. v
4. he combination of a casing, a rotor having aring-like flange thereon, the'inner edge of the flange bein spaced from the rotor shaft; and a plnra ity of sheet metal fan blades provided with integral body porftion's arranged in a radial plane on said flange and havin integral securin fingers folded over the e ges of the flange or securing the blades thereto.
A structure of the class described, comprising a ring and sheet metal fan blades prising a ring and sheet metal fan blades provided with segment shaped body portions arranged on said ring edge to edge and provided with integral fingers clamped over the edges of the ring, each blade body portion being provided with a finger at its inner end and a finger at each side of its blade.
7 A structure of theelass described, comprising a ring, and sheet metal fan blades providedv with complementary segment shaped body portions arranged'in a radial plane on said ring edge to edge and rovided with integral fingers clamped over t e edges of the ring.
In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and seal in the presence of two witnesses.
J. F. C. BABCDCK, JAS. K. GIBBS.
