Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
sAMUEL s. voLLUM AND WILLIAM H. GREEN, 0E NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEM ENT IN VcAnnlAcE-wH'EI-:L LUBRICA'roRs.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent`N0. 109,97*?. dated December 61 1870.
-To all 'whom it may concern:
Beit known that we, SAMUEL S. VoLLUM and WILLIAM H. GREEN, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Lnbricator.; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and
' exactdescriptionthereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.
This invention relates to a new and luseful improvement in a device for conveying-lubricating" material or substancesas tallow, grcase, orcther semi-liquid orsolid substancesto the arms of carriage-axles, or to journals, boxes, orbearings; and it consists in a lubricating-cup with a tubular stem, and in a tight- 4iitting cap thereon, and in a'pstou or follower D is the cap, which screws tightly on the cup A.
Eis the p1stonrod, which works through the cap with a screw-thread.
The lubricating,r material is placed in the" cup after remoi'linfs.` the cap and piston. The l cap is then screweddown tightly, and thesemifluid orsolid lubricating material is forceglA from the cup by screwing down ythe pistou. The piston or follower is designed to work tightly in the cup, so lthatpthepower applied in screwing down the piston vserves to force the materialfrom 'the cup and onto the frictional surface by a positive motion, thus rendering clogging or gumming of the o'ritice impossible.
Having thus .described our invention, we claim as new and desire to ,secure by Letters PatentrEhe combination of solid cap D, solid disk C, cup A, and pipe B, each constructed and relatively arranged as and for the purpose specified.
The above speciiicationv of our invention signed by us this 28th day of March, 1870.
