TlNTTlED STATES PATENT OFFTQE.
ARTHUR H. LARRABEE, OF CORONA, CALIFORNIA.
PIOKEB S SACK.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ARTHUR H. Lannannn, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Corona, in the county of Riverside and State of California, have made certain new and useful Improvements in Pickers Sacks, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in pickers sacks, and it consists in the combinations, constructions and arrangements herein described and claimed.
The primary object of my invention is to provide a top for a sack which will keep sticks and trash from falling into the sack during the picking operation.
An object of my invention is to provide a sack which is so constructed as to render it impossible for a picker to clip fruit directly into the sack thereby injuring the fruit by the fall.
A further object of my invention is to provide a sack having a shoulder strap which is easy of adjustment, but which, when adjusted, will remain securely in position.
A further object of my invention is to provide a covered sack having a sloping top with an opening at one end in convenient position for filling the sack.
Other objects and advantages will appear in the following specification, and the novel features of the device will be particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
My invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings forming part of this application in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of one side of the sack, Fig. 2 is a side view of the reverse side, and Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the skeleton frame of the top.
In carrying out my invention I provide a sack having a main body portion 1 and being provided 011 its sides with snap hooks 2. The bottom 3 of the sack is open as shown in Fig. 1, and to the bottom are attached the straps 4 bearing the rings 5 which are designed to engage the snap hooks 2. When the bag is folded on the line 6, and the rings 5 are held by the snap hooks 2 the fold 6 becomes the bottom of the bag. The upper part of the bag is made over a frame like that shown in Fig. 3. This frame consists of a ring 7 to which is attached an upper brace Specification of Letters Patent.

member 8. A. bottom brace member 9 forms a loop with a curved side brace member 10. The end of the brace member 8 passes around the loop formed by the members 9 and 10 and is turned upwardly, then downwardly and inwardly forming a hook 11. As shown in Fig. 1, a cloth covering 12 is placed around the frame formed by the members 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11, while a leather binding 13 is secured to the ring 7 and holds the cloth in place. A shoulder strap lt is provided with a series of perforations 15 near one end arranged to receive the hook 11. On the opposite side of the sloping cover thus formed is a pocket 16 for holding chalk for marking boxes and there is also a loop or handle 17 which may be used when dumping the contents of the sack.
From the foregoing description of the various parts of the device the operation thereof may be readily understood. The sack should be put on with the strap 1% over the left shoulder allowing the sack to rest over the right hip. This places the opening 18 in a naturally convenient position for putting the fruit into the sack with the left hand, and allows perfect freedom of movemcnt with both hands. When the sack is full it is only necessary to disengage the rings 5 from the snap hooks 2 and discharge the fruit through the bottom opening 3.
t will be seen that my device prevents the clipping of the fruit directly into the sack. The large opening at one end of the sloping top permits ready access to the bag while the sloping of the top permits freedom of movement of the right arm which the latter could not have if the top did not slope away. The sack may be made of any suitable material such as canvas, or the like.
l1 claim:
1. In a pickers sack, a main body portion of flexible material and a top portion comprising a frame consisting of a rigid ring, a pair of laterally extending frame members secured to the bottom of the ring, and a rigid brace member secured to the top of the ring and being connected with the outer end of said laterally extending frame members, and a covering for the top portion of said frame. 7
2. In a pickers sack, a main body portion of flexible material and a top portion com- 'prising a frame consisting of a rigid ring, a frame, the bottom portion of the frame pair of laterally extending frame members forming the top of said flexible body porsecured to the bottom of the ring and a tion.
rigid brace member secured to the top of the ARTHUR H. LARRABEE. ring and being connected With the outer end WVitnesses:
of said laterally extending frame members, S. E; SEALEY,
and a covering for the top portion of said J. W. ROWE.
