Description

F. J. BUTCHER.
LOOM SHUTTLE.
APPLIGATION FILED our. 6, 1909.

Q /T' Z UNITED srarnsr rnn'r OFFICE FRANK J. BUTCHER, 0F HOIPEIDALE, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGNOR T0 DRAPER COMPANY, OF I-IOPEDALE, MASSACHUSETTS, A CORPORATION OF MAINE.
LOOM-SI-IUTTLE.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, FRANK J. DU'roHnn, of Hopedale, l/Vorcester county, Massachir setts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Loom-Shuttles, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to the welt carrier holding springs of shuttles used in automatic wetft-replenishing looms wherein replenishment is effected by ejecting the spent \vei t carrier from the shuttle and in serting a. fresh weft-carrier.
It is old to employ for holding the weftcarrier a spring consisting of two inde iiendent resilient jaws which grasp the butt oi the weft-carrier on opposite sides; and the present improvement consists in the means employed for maintaining such independent jaws in proper relative position.
The improvement is illustrated in the accoi'npanying drawings wherein Figure l, is a plan view of one end of a shuttle having one form of the improved spring. Fig. 2, is a perspective of the spring shown in Fig. 1. Fig. 3, is a perspective of the shanks oil. a second form 01 spring. Fig. 4, is a similar perspective of a third form. F 5, is a section oi the shanks of a fourth term. F 6, is a side view 01 the form shown in Fig. 5. i
As shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the weft-carrier holding shuttle spring comprises two independent grasping jaws A. and i3. having respectively shanks o, and Z), which are in contact with each other and fit a recess in the shuttle C, in the usual manner secured to the shuttle, as customary, by a hell I), passing through holes 0, in the shanks. it is vital that the two jaws should not turn on the bolt D, independently of each other. but should be locked one to the other. To this end the shank a, of jaw A has an extension (Z, which is folded around the square inner end of the shank Z), ofjaw B, and through this folded extension the bolt 1). also passes. The two aws are thus mutually directly engaged and locked together so that one can not turn on the bolt independently of the other.
In the form shown in Fig. 3, the shank b, of jaw B, has a right-angled open recess (2, at its inner end, in which fits a rectangular stud f, bent and projecting laterally from the inner end of the shank a, of jaw A.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed October 6, 1909.

satin No. 521,306.
In the form shown in Fig. l, the shank b. of jaw B, has a right-angled stud g,,p1.ojecting beyond its inner end which is straddled and fitted by two l'lat laced lingers I1, 71 stud f, bent and, projecting laterally from the shank a, of jaw A.
in the form shown in l igs. 5 and (L the shank o, of jaw ll. has a plurality ol' reccsses i. surrounding the bolt hole r, which may extend either partly or all the way through the shank. both ways being shown in Fig. :3, the recesses being. however. on the inner face oil the shank. The shank o of jaw A, on its inner mating face has a plurality of correspondinglv located laterally projecting studs Z, which closely lit the recesses 2', respectively.
In each of the several forms the two jaws are directly and mutually lurked together by co-acting integral and reeiproca pro visions.
I claim:
1. A looni shuttle having a weft-carrier holding spring consisting of two separate and independent spring jaws having shanks which seat against iach other and are directly and mutually locked together by roacting integral provisions.
at loom shuttle having a well-carrier holding spring having two separate and independent spring jaws having shanks whit-h seat against each other and are locked lo gether by mutually engaging integral projections and recesses.
3. A. loom shuttle having a. weft-carrier holding spring consisting of two separate and independent spring jaws niul'uallv locked together by coacting integral provisions.
A. loom shuttle having a weft-carrier holding spring having two separate and in' dependent spring jaws locked together by mutually engaging integral projections and recesses.
In witness whereof, I have hereunto signed my name in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
