Specification of Letters Patent.
Application led August 15, 1913.
Patented May 26, 1914. Serial No. 784,917.
T0 all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, CARL RAUHE, a citizen of the German Empire, residing at Dusseldorf, Germany, lave invented certain new and useful Improvements in or Relating to Artificial Dentures, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in artificial dentures but more particularly to the manufacture of the suction devices for the same.
The object of my invention resides in a form for molding the suction-cavity on dental-plates and embedding the fastening button for the rubber disk thereon, which form may be freely withdrawn from the dentalplate after the embedding of the inserted button thereon, thus obviating the use of any sharp tool for removing the mold, preventing damage or deformation to the button. On the other hand the button has a finished bed for the reception of the rubber disk of such shape as to secure a correct setting of the latter.
In describing the invention in detail reference will be had to the accompanying drawing, forming part of the specification, and wherein like characters denote corresponding parts in the several views, in which:
Figure l is a face view of the molding form, Fig. 2 isa central cross-section of same. Fig. 3 is a cross section of the form fitted with studor button-insertion. Fig. 4 is a cross-section of the crown portion of a dental plate in which the button has been fixed.
The molding form or disk b (preferably of tin or such like metal) as shown in Figs. l and 2 has a recess fitting the head a2 of the stud a to be inserted therein (Fig. 3) and having a cover b1 while the larger foot-plate as of the stud (when inserted in the form b) lies close against the lower face of the form Z1, thus closing the recess.
The mounting of the new suction device is eected as follows: The form Z) with the inserted button a (Fig. 8) is placed on the vplaster cast model in such manner that the large foot-plate a3 of the stud a lies upward and is then pressed down with the thumb to shape it roughly to the position it is to occupy. After the case is packed and the plate vulcanized in the usual manner the form b may be freely removed from the denture-plate, without the use of any instrument, inasmuch as the form b has no collar extending beneath the head a2 of the stud or button a, (now attached to the denture-- plate, Fig 4), and the rubber on packing the case cannot enter beneath the head a2, owing to the cover b1 of the form b and the footplate a3 lying close to the recess of the form b.
The circular recess al around the neck of the button widens toward the interior so that the suction disk c after being passed over the head a2 will slip readily and without friction into place and draw tight around the neck of the button. The large foot-plate a3 with its outer rim prevents the rubber disk c from resting on the dentalplate and at the same time reduces the free portion of said disk to a reasonable proportion, so asvto obviate flabbiness of the outer edge of the suction disk and thus prevents the entering and wedging in of food thereunder and accompanying looseness of the plate.
It will be noted that the construction described may be employed for all shapes of suction-devices, such as round, oval, square, and any other forms.
I am aware that prior to my invention disks for molding the suction cavity on dental-plates have been made with an inserted stud or button to be embedded in the dentalplate. I therefore do not claim such a combination broadly, but
I claim:
l. A disk-like form for molding the suction cavity on dental-plates and embedding the fastening button for the rubber disk thereon, having a recess to receive the head of the fastening button to be embedded on the denture-plate, and the lower edges of the opening to receive large foot plate of the button, substantially as described and forfthe purpose set forth.
2. The button for the rubber disk to be l scribed my name in the presence of two wtnserted n ihe dentall plate hmig an uppelr l nesses. and lower er er ete untec y a shan; with an nterngellypoutwardly widening ren L CARL RAUHE' [LS'] cess between tbe twov plates, substantially as described and for the purpose set forth. l In testimony Whereofl have hereuntosubl Witnesses ALBERT NUFER, HELEN NUFER.
