tl-NlTED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LOUIS 0. OVESON, OF USAGE CITY, KANSAS.
POLE-COUPLING.
T0 all whom it may concern Be it known that I, LoUis O. OvnsoN, a citizen of the United States, residing at @sage City, in the county of Osage, State of Kansas, have invented certain new and use ful Improvements in Pole-Couplings; and l do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in pole couplings.
The principal object of the invention is to provide a pole coupling by means of which a pole may be readily attached to either of the brake beams of a double row lister plow, thereby enabling the operator to split the stub rows and placing the horses on soft ground.
Another object of the invention is to provide a coupling for the purpose set forth which is extremely simple in construction, it being composed of a minimum number of parts, and is therefore cheap to manufacture.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the construction and novel combination of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and pointed out in the claims hereto appended; it being understood that various changes in the form, proportion, size and minor details of construction within the scope of the claims may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.
ln the drawing: Figure 1 is a top plan view of a double row lister plow showing the application of a coupling constructed in accordance with my invention, Fig. 2 is a detail side elevation thereof, Fig. 3 is a detail cross sectional view taken on the line 3 8 of Fig. 1, and Fig. 4 is a plan view of the coupling.
Like reference numerals designate corresponding parts in all the iigures of the drawing.
Referring to the drawing, A designates the frame of an ordinary double row lister plow, and this frame includes the ordinary forwardly extending plow beams 55, each beam including the usual clevis 6. A pole 7 is adapted to be connected to either of the beams 5 by means of a clamping element which is designated as a whole by the refn Specification of Letters Patent.

erence letter B. This element B consists of a pair of opposed inner and outer clamping arms S and 9 respectively. These arms are formed from strap metal and respectively include an inner portion 10 and an offset outer portion 11. The inner portions 1() of said arms are disposed on opposite sides of a respective plow beam 5 and are secured thereto by spaced bolts 12 and 13. The olfset portions 11 of said arms receive the inner end of the pole 7 and are secured to said pole by means of spaced bolts 14 and 15 respectively. It will thus be observed that the inner end of the pole 7 rests upon the clevis 6 of the beam 5 to which the pole is attached.
The angular brace B further includes a rearwardly inclined brace 1G, the forward end thereof being offset at an aiigle, as at 17, and secured to the offset outer portion 11 of the arm 8 by means of the bolt 15. The rear end of the brace 1G is also offset but in the opposite direction from the portion 17, and this last mentioned portion is indicated by the reference numeral 18. The offset portion 18 of the brace 1G is disposed against the outer face of the other beam 5 and is secured thereto by means of a bolt 19, an angular brace 20 extending between the members 8 and 16, the said brace being disposed in a plane which intersects the plane of the longitudinal axis of the member 16 at right angles. The brace Q0 is formed with offset ends 21 and 22 respectively, the former being connected to the brace 16 centrally of its ends by means of a bolt 23. The end 22 of said brace 20 is secured to the inner portion 1() of the inner arm 8 by means of the bolt 13.
From the foregoing', it will be observed that by means of the angular brace B the pole 7 may be attached to either plow beam 5 by simply reversing said clamping element, and by oifsetting the pole 7 as above described, the horses will be caused to walk in the furrow instead of on the stubble, thus making it much easier for the horses.
Nhat is claimed is:
1. The combination with a lister plow including a pair of spaced plow beams, of a pole, and a clamping element for alternately connecting said pole to either beam, said element consisting of a pair of opposed inner and outer clamping arms, each arm including an inner portion and an offset outer portion, the inner portions being disposed on opposite sides of one of the beams and secured thereto, the outer portions being disposed on opposite sides of the inner end of the pole and secured thereto, a rearwardly V 75 inclined brace having its forward end secured to the forward end of one of said arms and the other end secured to the other of said beams, and a brace connecting the first mentioned beam and the last mentioned l0 brace and arranged at right angles to said brace.
2. A pole clamping element for the purpose set forth consisting of a pair of opnosed inner and outer clamping arms, each 15 arm consisting of an inner portion and an offset outer portion, the inner portions being adapted to be clamped to a plow beam LOUIS O. OVESON.
