Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
PATRICK S. RYAN, OF RUTLAND, VERMONT.
IMPROVEMENT IN MILK-STRAINERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 109,763, dated November 29, 1870.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PATRICK S. RYAN, of Rutland, in the county of Rutland and State of Vermont, have invented an Improved Milk- Strainer; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, making part ot' this speciiication- Figure 41 being a top view of the strainer; Fig. 2 a central vertical section of the same.
Like letters designate corresponding parts in both ii gures.
My invention consists in the employment of a rim, a, projecting inward over the interior of the body A of the strainer, around its upper edge, for the purpose of preventing the running or slopping over of the milk, when pouring it into the strainer. This rim may be quite narrow, and it may project at the angle shown, or at any other angle that may be thought more suitable.
It also consists in locating the strainerganzes b b at an inclination, and alittle above the lowest part or cavity c of the strainerbody A, so that the sediment will not lodge and collect on the gauze, to clog or obstruct the same, but will subside into the lowest cavity or hollow c, from which it can readily be cleaned.
The form of the strainer-body A is represented as conical, and this is a suitable and convenient form, since it adapts itself to vessels of different sizes, and is well suited to give the desired inclination to the ganzes, and to form a cavity below, as shown; but any other suitable form may be adopted.
The strainer is particularly valuable in large dairies and in cheese-factories.' It also may be used for straining other substances besides milk.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The milk-strainer herein described, provided with a rim, a, projecting inward, all around from its upper edge at an angle, as shown, and the strainer-ganzes b b, at an inclination, with a sediment cavity, c, below them, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
Specification signed by Ine this 3d day of May, 187 0.
. PATRICK S. RYAN.
