fo all whom 'it ymay conf/fra, s
Be it known that l. lin'inninen WILHELM limiten, a subject of the King` oit Prussia, residing,` at Tempelhof, near Berlin, in the Kingdom of Prussia, in the German Enr pire, have .invented certain neu7 and useful Apparatus for llxtinguishingv lfires; and .l do hereby declare the following to .be a full, clear7 and exact description ot' the invention, such as will enahle others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the saine.
My invention relates to improvements in tire-extinguishing apparatus, and it consists in theconstructions, combinations and arrangements herein described and claimed.
The object of my invention is to provide an improved apparatusl for thoroughly niixing` a powdered fire-extiin g'ilisliing- .substance with a heavy inert gas and elliciently sup plying' such mixture to the tire; whereby the powder tends to prevent escape ot' the admixed inert gas, and maintains such gas in close contact with the tire lor preventing the entrance ot' air between the powder particles.
ln the accompanying` drawings, forming -a part of this application7 and in which similar reference symbolsl indicate corre spending parts .in the several views:-
li`ie'ure l is a side elevation, partly in section, of the tire extinguisher; Fien@ is a section on the line lli-ll of Fig'. Fig. El is a section on the line lllwlll oi Fig. l, and, Fig. 4l illustrates cross-sections of ditlerent forms of discharge outlets for the chamber nozzle. y
Referring;` to the ctmstriwtion in detail, the apparatus con'nn'iscs a powder tank 8 provided with a curved base l2 and a tapered discharge nozzle 7 extendingh therefrom; the wallsot said tapered nozzle being` formed of two conical portions intersecting at acute anglesalong axial elenients at 13 and extendingto a discharge outlet preferalgily oit tlat cross section Jfor elliciently spreading` the discharged powder. A storage tank l for a suitable compressed inert gras is secured to the casing 8 and provided with a gas supply pipe 2 extendinr downwardly within the rear wall of sait casing. The gas supply pipe is provided with diverging nozzles 9 and l adapted to direct jetsv of gas against the curved bottom wall. l2 of the tank by which it is dellected against the lower conieal wall of the discharge nozzle 7, and with a projectingnozzlc 'llt adapted to direct a jet ol against the upper conical wall of said, nozzle; the n: thus directed simul taneously .ig-aina. the uppeiand lower conical walls ot' the discharge nozzle iinpinging at the intersection of said walls to canse a. strong' whirling motion of said gas (as indicated by the arrows), whereby the latter is disehargeffl with a whirling` action through said nozzle. This provides a very advantageous construction oy which the powder and gas are ellieiently iflischarged in a thoroughly mixed condition, and which prevents lodgnient or packing' of the powder on the walls of the nozzle.
llt will he noted `that. by my improved con struction the curved bottom wall l2 and the iinpinningl 2(gas within the tapered nozzle act to successive] y impart a whirling' ino tion to the in two different planes.
I have illustrated preferred and satisfae tory constructions, but changes could he made within the ,spirit and scope of my invention'.
l claim 1. A tire extinguishinp, apparatus coin prisinzo,` a `powderchamber provided with a tapered discharge nozzle having walls termed ot two conical portions intersecting in relative angular relation alongl axial elcments; and a plurality of gas dischareineF nozzles 'for directingl independent otipgas along' said intersecting conicalportions for causing' a strong;h whir ing action in .said tapered discharging nozzle.
2. A tire-(351thigtiishing` apparatus coinprising a powder chamber provided with a. ta paired disi'zlmrge nozzle having walls' fornied ol two conical portions intersecting' at acute angles along;- axial elements, 'and means Yfor directing,` independent jets ot' gas along;- said intersecting'v conical portions for causing 4 a strong whirling action in said nozzle.
In testimony whereof I have all'fred my signature in presence ot' two witnesses.
