through an aperture in the other. Usually sashes of this type are formed of T-bars having molded heads, ainla'aiimis expedients have been employed for joining these barsto each other.
With the present invention the sash coniprises a combination of molded and plane or fiat head T-bars, the former being apertured for the passage of the latter. This avoids cutting through the entire head of the molded bar, as the thickness of the head of the flat T-bar is less than that of the molded section.
In the drawings: Figure l is a perspective view showing two transverselyarranged sash bars joined to each other. Fig. 2 is a sectional elevation thereof. F 3 is a perspective View of the molded bar. Fig. f is a similar view of the plane T-bar. Fig. 5 is a view similar to Fig. 3, showing a modified construction. Fig. dis 'a perspective view similar to Fig. l of the corrstrm-tion shown in Fig. Figs. 7, 8, 9 and 10 are cross sections of variously modified molded bars.
A is a sash bar having a molded T-head B and a plane web or stem portion C. D is a transversely-arranged sash bar, which has a plane flat head E and web or stem F. To secure these two bars to each other the bar A is aperturcd at G to correspond to the section of the bar E. The portion G of this aperture, which corresponds to the-web F of the bar D, is formedin the web C of the bar A, while the portion'of the aperture G which corresponds to the head E, is formed in the head B of the bar A:
In assembling the cash, the bars D may bethreaded through the apertures "in the bars A and when properly positioned are secured from displacement; The bars may be socured to each other in various ways, but, as shown in Figs. 1 toe, the web F of the bar D is notched at II in al inement with the web C of the bar A. The latter is then indented, as shown in Fig. 2, at I, which drives the metal into the notch H and interlocks the bars.
In Fig. 5, a modified construction is shown, in which the web of the bar A trans.- versely' slitted at 5, so as to permit of deflecting the section K at the end of the aperture (l' suliicicntly' to web F of the bar I After the bars are properly positioned the deflected section K and will engage in-the notch is driven hack II to interlock the bar.
My improved construction has the ad vantage that the bars may be engaged with each other without cutting through the head of one of them or bending or deflecting them from normal shape. At the same time the appearance produced by the sash whcncomplctcd as pleasing as that em 'lloying only bars with molded heads, and the construction is stronger than where the head of one bar is cut through.
As shown in Figs. 1 to 6, the molded heads "of the bars are of the usual concave form.
It may, however be desirable at times to employ different shaped heads such as shown.
in Figs. 7 to 10.
What I claim as my invention is:
In a metallic window sash, transverselyarranged sash bars respectively formed with a plane fiat and a molded T-head, the head and web of the molded bar being of a admit the notched greater. depth respectively than the head and web of the fiat head bar and the web and head .of the molded bar being provided with apertures corresponding respectively to the cross-section of the web and head of the fiat head bar, there being anotch in the web of the fiat head bar, and the web of the molded head bar being indent-ed into said notch to form an-interlock between'said loans.
In testimony whereof I atrlx my signature. in presence of two witnesses. I
ROBERT s. nnnwnoun.
