A ucafiommecxamh e, 1913. Serial No. 752,384.
Toall whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, PETER A. Dnasr, a
citizen of the United States, residing at Oakland, in the county of Alameda and State of California, have invented certain j new and useful Improvements in Heating Systems, of which the following is a specification'. v This invention relates to heating systems and has as its principal object the construc-.
' rangement and combination of parts hereinafter described.
v The means by which such objects are attained will be fully set forth'in the following specification and the attached drawing wherein-.-
' Figure l'is a view in perspective of a sys tem embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a section of the lower part of the apparatus shown in Fig. 1.
Denoting corresponding parts by the same numerals ofreference, 1 denotes a domestic boiler or tank having the heating coil 2 with a flow .pipe. 3 and return pipe 4 which latter runs to a point near the top of the boiler where it discharges.
5 denotes the hot water supply pipe lead-. p
said tank to the lower part of. said second coil, a riser leading from the upper part-of 95.
ing to the domestic fixtures as at 6.
'7 denotesthe cold water inlet which runs ,to near the bottom of theboiler in the usual manner.
Outside of coil 2 there is placed a largercoil .8 to which the cold water from' the bot-,
tom of the boiler is led through pipe 9.
nects to branches which are in turn connect.- ed to the radiators 12.: The return pipe 13 1 7 from the radiator is connected to the bottom of the boiler is shown at 14. Intermediate the top and bottom of the boiler an outlet 15 e provided which connects bya relatively small diameter tube 16 with" the riserll.
Above this may be placed a valve 17 which is closed when the heating system is not in use. The usual valves (not shown) will of "course be placed at the individual radiators. The coils 2 and 8 are heated by means of a buEIlor 18 which may be of any suitable ty e,
or a grate may be used. The gases from t e burner or grate are led through the flue 19 which passes upwardthrough the boiler 1.
The operation of the device is as follows: When the gas burner 18 is lighted, the water in coils 2 and 8 is heated from the former and rises through pipe 4 which opens near the top of the boiler. From the top of coil 8 the water rises through pipes 10 and 11 to the radiator 12 returning to the lower part of the boiler through pipe 13. In case both radiators are turned off the water then has a path to the boiler through the small pipe 16 which is ofsuflicie'iit size to prevent any pressure rise in coil 8. and yet not large enough to shunt the circulation from pipe 11.
' It will be understood'by those skilled in the art that'while the apparatus shownand described herein is the preferred form of my invention, various modifications thereof leading from the lower part of said tank to the lower part of said coil, a connection co leading from the upper part'iof said coil to the upper part of said tank, a second coil, a connection leading from the lower part of said second ,coil, one or more radiators connected to saidmiser, a return pipe leading from said radiators tpathe lower part of the system, and. a bypass connected from said rise'rkgto said tank. V j I f 2;.A'combined hot water su ply and heatsystem. comprising in com ination, a resioo' ,ervoir tank, a coil for maintaining the tempertur'e of, water in said tank, a ,lconnection leading from the lower part oi said'tank to the lower part of said coil,la connection leading" from the, upper part of said.-coil to the upper part of said tank, a second coil, a connect-ion leading from the lower part if said'tank to the lower part of said second coil, a riser leading from the upper part of In testimony whereof I aflix my signature sald second mentioned c011, one or more in presence or two wltnesses.
radiators connected to said riser, a return PETER A. DEASY. -pipe leading from said radiators to said \Vitnesses: 5 tank, and a bypass connected from said riser F. P. SCHROEDER,
' to said tank. FRANK H. CARTER.
