In the above described operation the gripper bar on is also operated by the trip pin m so as to cause the nose piece m of said bar to engage the rear, or corresponding end of the dish blank F, as shown in Fig. 2. In the backward movement of the bar 70, the dish blank f is drawn into contact by the gripper bar m with the stop and gage pins 0', after which said bar 70 has a still further backward movement that releases said gripper bar m from the dish blank, and the fingers 79' then come in contact with the front r edge of said dish blank, as shown in Fig. 2,
and in connection with the stop and gage pins 0 hold said blank in proper adjustment longitudinally of the machine in the operation of the dish shaping and forming mechanism. At the end of the movement above described, the upper part't' of the dish shaping and forming mechanism moves downwardly, and just before it reaches the posi tion shown in Figs. 2 and 3, the lever arms 7' move inwardly into the position shown in full lines in Fig. 3 and the gagesp are brought into contact with the corners of the dish blank f and accurately position said dish blank laterally of the machine after which, the part or parts 2' of the dish forming mechanism continue their downward movement in which movement the dish is partially shaped and formed, and the end and corner portions thereof locked together as in the operation of a machine covered by Patent No. 939,888, hereinbefore referred to.
Although I have shown and described various parts of the original machine as heretofore constructed, it must be understood that the invention which forms the basis of this application, as hereinbefore stated, relates entirely to the means for adjusting the dish blanks in proper position in the dish shaping and forming mechanism and holding said dish blanks in said mechanism, the said means consisting of two sets of devices, one set of which is movable longitudinally of the machine, and the other transversely thereof, and both of which are operated by the shaft j and its cam j.
My invention is not limited to the exact construction of the devices herein shown and described for placing, adjusting and holding the dish blanks in the shaping and forming mechanism, and various changes therein and modifications thereof may be made, within the scope of the appended claims, without departing from the spirit of my invention o-r sacrificing its advantages.
