To all whom it'mag concern:
Be it known that I, ARTHUR ROSSI, a su ject of the King of Italy, residing in th city and county of San Francisco, State of California, have invented new and useful In'iprovements in a Combined Grape Crusher, Stemmer, and Must- Pump, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to combined grape crushing, stem removing and must pumping machines for the use in the process of wine makingfroni grapes, and has for its object the production of mechanism that will complete in one continuous operation the several performances required in said Another object is to obviatethe defect, now inetwith machinesof this naturego? the frequent (Digging of the suction pipe of' the must pump by pomace, andi'in this way eliminate the necessity of frequent stopping of the machine, the removal of all the liquid contents from the must pan, and the cleaning of .the suction pipe of the must pump.
To these ends and objects chiefly my invention embraces a pair of crushing rollers elevator for the delivery of" clusters of grapes into said hopper, a feed controller to regulate the discharge from the hopper into the crushing rollers, means for detaching ter from the machine, and collecting the former in a must pan, and novel devices fdr keeping the must agitated while in the n.

The invention further embraces a novelconstruction and arrangement .of parts and mechanism, producing a continuously operating machine, that will not readily clog, all as hereinafter described and set forth. The following description explains at length the nature of my said invention, and

The crushing rollers D and E may be on'ritted in some machines built under this design. In such case the clusters of grapes delivered into the hopper F are directly fed by ,thc'controller G into the casing K and L through the funnel Z, where they are caught by the prongs 7' and subjected to a rapid peripheral speed.
"The shells or skins of the grapes, due to impact against thestationary walls of the inclosing casing, become ruptured, detached from he stems and discharged through the perforated casing K into the must pan N.
It is evident that by the arrangement of the mechanism as illustrated in the drawings and described above, the performance of the machine is continuous and the tendency'of cloggingof the suction pipe of the must pump is entirely eliminated by keeping the pomace of uniform consistency before it becomes subject to the action of the pump in the suction pipe. p What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In a machine of the character described. the combination of a pair of crushing rollers, a feed hopper, a feed controller. placed between said crushing rollers and said hopper,
means for the separation and discharge of the stems, a must pump for the removal and delivery of both solids and liquids 'of the pomace and means to drive said crushing rollers, feed controller and must pump. 2, In a machine of the character described the combination of a pair of crushing rollers, a feed hopper, a feed controller placed be tween said crushing rollers andsaid-hopper, an elevator for the delivery of material into said hopper, means for the separation and expulsion of stems and a, must pump for the collection of the must, a must pump for the removal and delivery of bothsolids and liquids of the pomace, a'discharge pipe leading from said pan to the suction pipe of said must pump and means operating to agitate the must in said pan.
4. In a machine of the character described the combination of a pair of crushing rollers adapted to receive. clusters of grapes to be crushed, a feed hopper, a feed controller placed between saidhopper and said crushing rollers, means acting to separate and expel the stems, a pan for the collect-ion of the must, a must pump for the removal and delivery of both solids and liquids of the pomace and means operating to agitate the must in said pan. 5. In a machine of the character described the combination of a pair of crushing rollers adapted to receive clusters of grapes to be crushed, means acting to separate and expel the stems, a pan for the collection of the must, a must pump for the removal and delivery of both solids and liquids of the pomace and an agitator comprising a shaft provided with a helical blade, means to drive said crushing rollers and means to drive said agitator shaft;
6. In a'machine of the character described the combination of means adapted to receive and crush bunches of grapes, means for the separation and expulsion of the stems, a must pan, a must pump for the removal and delivery ofboth solidsand liquids of the pomace and means acting to keep the material agitated while in the must pan.
7. In a machine of the character described the combination of means adapted to receive and crush clusters of grapes, a feed hopper, a feed controller placed between said means and said hopper, mechanism for the separae removal and deseparation and discharge of the stems, a controller governing the discharge from said hopper into said means, a pan for the collection of the must, a must pump for-the removal and delivery of both solids and liquids ,of the pomace, and means acting to keep the material agitated while in the must pan.
9. In a machine of the character described the combination ofmeans adapted to receive clusters-of grapes, a feed controller, means for the separation and expulsion of the stems, a must pan and a must pump for the removal and delivery of both solids and liquids of the pomace.
10. In a machine of the character dej scribed the combination of meansadapted-to receive clusters of grapes, means for the separation and expulsion of the stems, a must pan, a must pump for the removal-and delivery of both solids and liquids of the pomace .and means acting to keep'a the material agitated while in the must pan.
