To all whom 'it may concern:
Beit known that I, WILLIAM Renn, 2ND, of South .Y Stoddard, in the county of Cheshire and State of N ew' Hampshire,have invented a new and' useful'Improvepart'of the 'driving-gear, around a central pivot.and.v
along the rim of a iiied segmental-toothed riii for discharging the apple, by'- sliding the fork back after the apple has been pared,.and the toothed pinion worked by the toothed raoikhas passed beyond it, be-
hind a stripper which arrests the rotary motion ofthe' applerand detaches it from the fork, allas hereinafter described.

C is a segmental-toothed rack applied to the upperl face of this plate, for imparting rotary motion to a pinion, D, mounted on a frame, E, supporting the fork I, and gearing with said rack, which frame is, pivoted' at the axis G of lthe segmental-toothed rack to be moved over the saidgrack by the f handle H, to impart the rotary motion to the fork, said pinion ha-ving a large wheel, I, attached to it, and gearing with the pinion on the fork.
My improvement consists in making the base of the fork-carrying frame in two parts, Ky L, the one to lslide back and forth` on the other, and in providing the groove M on plate A, andthe stud-piu N on the partl L, or, it may be, other equivalent devices for causing the said movement; also, in providing the stripper O for discharging the apple from the. fork when the latter is moved back from the axis G.
The groove M is arrange-d on the plate A so as to receive the pin N at the time the pinion D arrives at the end oi' rack C, and it is placed tangential to the crculartline described by this stud-pin, so that, if the fork-supporting frame is continued Vin movement',.it will be diverted from fthecircular course andproceed in the said tangential l ine,tl1e partL ofthe base sliding back inthe part K. This will cause the fork toxnove back through the stripper O, which, being supported on the part K of the base, will continue in the circular course, and strip the apple from the fork,iirs t stopping the rotationQotf it by the frietional contact with the stripper.

Instead' of the groove M and stud-pinfor causingthe back-and-forth movement ofthe fork-frame, a sin-V gle rib, rising up from the bed-plate, may engage a. notch in the lower side of part L, and will accomplish the same result.' p
Having thus described my invention,
I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- I 1. rlhe combination with the fprk of the stripper O, the fork-frame being arranged to recede from the'axis G during the continuation of the motion around said axis-after the driving-pinion D passes beyond the end Vof the segmental rack, all substantially as specified.
2. lhe arrangement of the base of the forlpframe in two parts, K L, andthe latter to slide on the former, and being actuated by stud-pin N and the Walls of groove M on plate A, all substantially as specified.
