Description
l CORNELIUS WEYGANT HUSON, OF FRENCH CORRAL, CALIFORNIA.-
Letters Patent No. 109,412, dated Noveniber 22, 1870.
iMPRovEMi-:N'i' IN RoPE-l-loLDERs.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the seme.
To all whom 'it may concern Be it known that I, CoRNn'LIUs WEYe-Am HUsoN, of French Corral, county lof Nevada, State of California, have invented au Improved Rope-Holder; and I do hereby declare the following description and accompanying drawing are suiiioient to enable any person y -slrilled in the art or science to which it r'ost 'nearly appertaiiis Yto make and'iiscny said'inyeiltion or improvement without further invention or experiment.
My invention relates to an improved device for clamping the end of a rope in order to hold it in a iixed position, when'it is required to be thus held, iu
- order to resist a strain.
My device can be adj ust-ed so as to grasp and hold a rope, cord, or chain of any ordinary size, the adjustment being automatic.
In order to explain'my invention so that it can be understood by others, a full and complete description is hereto annexed, in which reference is had, by let ters, to the accompanying drawing which forms a part of this specification, in whichi A vrepresents a block of Wood or metal, which cau be secured to any convenient fixed object in order to makeit permanent.
Bis 'a projectioin'which staudsout from the upper portio'n of the block A, and to whieh is ixed'a plate, C,'\vhioh depends from it parallel with the block A.
The lower end of this plate is rounded, as shown, so that its corners may not interfere with the operation of' the'holder.
Along the lower rim of this plate is a curved slot, a, which describes au arc 'of a circle; and a curved groove or channel, a, describing a corresponding arc, is made in the side ofthe block A., opposite the curved slot a in the plate.
Thesc'slots serve as guides for the roller, which moves in them.
D is a roller, having short journals at each end which move in the curved slot a, and curved groove or channel a', so that the roller can readily be carried to any portion of the arc desired. A bench, E, projects from the block Abeneath the plateC, upon which the line or rope is placed, and
held by the roller D, which binds against it by dropping` to a lowerportion of the arc, being bound between the rope aud curved plate C.
The block A, projection B, and bench E can all be cast in one piece, and the plate C afterward secured in the-proper position, if desired.
By constructing a rope or line-,holder in this manner, any sizeof rope or cord can be belayed almost can be made very cheaply.
Having thus described my invention,
IWhat I claim, and desire to secure by 'Letters Patont, is-
I. The roller D moving in the aro of a circle, in 'combination with 'the bench E, substantially as and for the purpose above described.
2. rIhe plate C provided with the curved slot a, and' block A provided with a correspondingly curved groove or channel, a', in combination with the journaledroller D, substantially as and for the purpose herein described.V
In witness that the above-described invention is claimed by me, I have'hereunto set my hand and seal.
CORNELIUS WEYGANT HUSON. [Ls] Witnesses W. M. EDDY RUFUs MGEACHARN.
