Description

LEROY Buoous, `or MOUNT PLEASANT, Iowa Letters Patent No. 109,378, dated November 22, 1870.
IMPROVEMENT IN TRACE-BUCKLES.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
l, Lunoy Bnoous, of Mount Pleasant, in the county of Henry and State of Iowa., have invented a new and useful Improvement in Traceduekle, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to an improvement in the construction of trace-buckles, and consists in the com- -bination and arrangement of parts, as hereinafter more fully described.
y Description. of the Aeeompmzi/inf/ .)raf1rin r/.
Figure I is a top'view. `ligure Il. is a side view.
General Description.
A i-Uis the llame of the buckle.
e O, the inortises on both sides oi' the frame, so that the billet from the baeleband can pass through the buckle, and answer for the belly-band billet.
His a small Atongue on the center ot' the bottom plate, for adjustment of the billet, or to raise the hame-tug, or lower it, and to keep the billet in its place when the change Ot' the traue isdesired.
`B B are inclined slots, with oval holes at the upper ends, so that the heads G (lr on the shoulders F F can pass through when the frame A is spread apart, and wheu'sprung back there is no chance for the heads coming out.
F F are the shoulders which slide up and down in the inclined slots B B; and,"when the same are slid down the, slots, they will press on the trace; and,
when raised to the upper end of the slots, they will admit of the trace being taken out.
G G are the heads ou the end of the shoulders to keep the frame A from spreading, so that the plate marked I will always remain in the frame.
The Atwo points g y, that extend out to the shoulders, are to support them.
' 1) is the tongue, which goes in the trace, being formed on the under side Ot` the plate.
The plate I presses down on the trace, which holds it iirmly inrits place, and, at the same time, the pressure on the billet is. so great that it cannot be removed from its position. l
By means of the mortises C' C and tongue H on the bottom plate, there is considerable saving in the leather used, as well as labor, and also the necessity of two straps, generally used on the. haelt-band, is obviated.
Having thus fully described my improvement,
What I claim, and desire to secure hy Letters Iateut, is-
The frame A, having linclined slots B B, mortises C @'and tongue H, in Combination with plate E,
having tongue D', shoulders F F, and knobs or heads G G, all arranged as herein shown and described.
' LEROY BROOKS.
