'PETER Il. SQHLUETER, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS..
COOKNG VESSEL.
specicaeenof Letters Patent. i Y Patented Apr. 21, 191,4.,
Application pledNovember 28, i913. Serial No, 803536.
To 'to/"1.0m t may concern f v lle it linovvn that l, ln'rnn H. SoriLUn'rnR, e. citieen of the United States, end resident of Chicago, county of Cook, and State of `illinois, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Cooking Vessels, of Which the following is a specificetiomsepd which are illustrated in the accompanying drawings, forming o. part thereof.
The invention relates to cooking vessels adopted for .use in the manufacture of condy, und of the type forming the subject of my pending application. for Letters Pet ent Scritti No. 788,256, filed September 5th, i913, upon which the en improvement.
The object of the invention is to increase the elliciency of devices of this hind; and it consists in a structure es hereinafter described, und as illustrated in the accompenyino; drawings, in Which- *igure i is e :front elevation oi the device, some parts being'brohen away; Fig. 2 is e plan view thereof with one of the het# tles removed; Fig. 3 is o detail plan View of he brochet arm supporting the hood; Fig. 4t is n sectional detail on the'linel-e of Fig. 2 and Fig. is @sectional detail on the line 5--5 or' Fig. 3.
The ironic or' the apparatus comprises :L bose plate l; supporting columns 11,12, rising therefrom, and brackets 13, lll, projecting later-.illy from the columns. Upon euch or" the lvrnckets 18, lil., is mounted a iornoce lo, lf3, within which is located :i gas burner, :zs li', which is sl1pplicd.\vith gas from o, moin 18 und with nir, from o mein l). Coohimly kcttles 20, 2l, ore provided, und ure odugitcd lo rest upon the furnaces 15,113. A single dome-shaped hood 9.2 cooperates with both kettles, the rims of the lettles und of the. hood being adopted to ineke sculing contact, `as shown ot 23 in Fig. Ll. rllhe hoodI is provided with a brochet arm si., projet-tinglutcrully from u collar 25 swivcled upon vertically movable post Q6, slidubly inem-lied within o hollow column 2T supported upon o bracket Q8 projecting laterally 'from the colnnms l l, lil. rlhe collur is vrovided with un, npstonding stem ill), npc denser 8O inionl: form,to which the chamber of the hood 2Q is connected by means of an elbow pipe 3l. The post 26 hes formed on the side thereof a gear ruck 32, with which present invention is.
which there is mounted n conmeshes e pinion 3 3 mounted upon e shaft 34, which carries 9. pinion in mesh with e gear Wheel 36 mounted upon e Vshaft 37 yprovided withpa. hand crank 38. ,By means of the 11a-nd crank `38 the post 2G lmay he 60.
raised and lowered, and with it the hood 22l and condenser 30. The furnaces 15, 16, and the hood 22 bein equi-distant from the exis ofthepost 26, t ie hood ma be swung into v position with eithrrofgthe ettles. An ex-' 65 heust pump 39 isnountednpon an extenV sion of the brochet 28,".end is connected with the lower end of the condenser 30 by means of e flexible pipe 40. .A blower 4l is con' nected through a. pipe/i2 with the air main in y119, and is driven by means of e belt 43 `from e., motor 44e, which also actuetes the pump 39. Clutches 45, 46, ure providedlor connecting the motorolie-ft. with the pump and blower, respectively, end are" controlled by e?.
means of shipper levers 4:7, 48. Any epproved form of clutch and clutch-shiftingmechanism may be used, and the details of these devices need not, therefore, be described.' Provision is made for discharging l 8G Water .into the condenser 30, as by means of e )dsipell entering the top thereof and prf vi ed with e spraying nozzle Within the condenser. Provision is also mede, asshown at 51, for securing the hood to, either of the 81" lrettles, and e. suitable ressure gage, thermometer and glazed sig 1t aperture are provided upon the hood," as shown at 52, 53 and 54. rlhe kettles are provided with handles,
:is 55, 5G, whereby they tmay, be removed 9i' from the furnaces. The es pipes leading from the main 18 to the urnoces are provided with cut-oil valves, us shown et 57 58.',
In use the material lh'uy ybe partially cooked in one of thel kettlesdiihile open. The
cooking operation is completed in a partial vacuum, und this is secured by swinging the hood into engagement with the kettle, sealing them together', and then operating the i exhaust pump. lVhile this final cooking op-V 10C eration is in process the initial cooking of a batch of material muy take` place in the companion kettle, and'whencompleted. the
hood is transferred to this .kettle by inunipu'm loting the crank BSQund swingingthe hood lol about the post 26. The hood being'securfod to the 'kettle with which it is IiQW associated,"
the exhaust pumpis again operated forthe. purpose oit` creating the desired vonnrn therein.
' the support,
i cally seul Vthe l claim as my, inventionl. In a cooking device, in combination, a pluralitv of stationarily supported kettles, a vertically extensible support, e hood mounted upon the support and movable about the axis Vthereof andbeing adapted to hermetically eeelgtlie kettles, he hood and kettles being uniformly -spacedfrom the axis o the support. j
2. in a cooking device, in combination e plurality of Stton'arly supported kettles', e vertically exteneble support, a hood, mounted upon'the support, and movable about the axis thercol tand being adapted to hcrmeti kettles, the hood and kettles being uniformly spaced from the exis of und means for creatingV e vacuum in the kettle when closed by the hood'.
8. In a cooking device, incombination, a
plurali-ty of stationa'rily supported kettles, a i
vertically extensible support, a. hood mount- Loosen@ l i' ed upon the support and movable about the axis thereof and being` adapted to hermeti- Cally seul the kettles, the hood and laettlcs being uniformly spliced from the axis of the support, and means for extending the support.
4. In :t cooking stamclaucl, a pair ally on the standard, a kettle mounted on cach furnace, a vertically movable shift on the axis ot the standard, a collm` rotatably mounted on the upper end of: the shaft, u. bracket projecting laterally a hood carried by the bracket and adopted lo hermetically seal the kettles in elternntioxn a condenser mounted on the collar and con nected with the interior of the hood, and means for applying suction to the condenser.
