7 b all whom it may concern Be it known that I, WILLIAM B. RoBEn'rs, a citizen of the United States, residing at Frankford, Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful Improvements in Curtain-Holders, of which the following is a specification.

The invention relates to curtain holders, and has for its primary object to provide a holder of this character wherein lace or other curtains on the raising of a window sash will be prevented from blowing to opposite sides of the window beyond the same, thus avoiding the possibility of the curtains coming in contact with gas fixtures to pre vent the catching afire thereof.

Another object of the invention is the provision of a curtain holder wherein the curtains when hung from a polemounted upon.

a window will be prevented from undue separation should the sashes of the window be raised, and also which may be used to sustain the curtain spread apart for the free ventilation of a room.

A further object of the invention is the provision of a curtain holder which is simple in construction, thoroughly reliable and eiiicient in its purpose, and inexpensive in manufacture.

With these and other objects in view, th invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, and pointed out in the claim hereunto appended.

In the drawing :-Figure 1 is a perspective view of a window showing the curtains hung therefrom with the holders constructed in accordance with the invention applied. Fig. 2 is a fragmentary side elevation of one of the holders, the same being shown in full lines in operative position and by dotted lines in inoperative position. Fig. 3 is a sectional view on the line 22 of Fig. 2.

Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views in the drawing.

Referring to the drawing by numerals, 5 designates generally a window casement in which are mounted as usual the sliding upper and lower sashes 6 and 7 respectively. Mounted in the window casement 5 at the inner side thereof near the top are pole sup- Specification of Letters Patent.

porting brackets 8 in which is engaged a curtain pole 9 of any well-known construction and from which are draped or hung the lace curtains 10 in the ordinary well-known manner.

The curtain holders comprise a pair of arms 11, each formed from a single piece of rigid wire bent to provide an eye 12 and a terminal hook 13 contiguous to the said eye, the opposite end of the arm 11 being bent to form a loop 14, and these arms 11 are adapted to be mounted upon the window frame 5 in a manner presently described.

Passed through the eye 12 of each arm 11 is a screw 15 which is also passed through a washer 16 disposed between the eye 12 and the vertical stile adjacent thereto of the window casement 5, the screw 15 being fastened in the said stile of the easement for the mounting of the arm 11 thereon whereby it can be swung to a position at right angles to the plane of the window, as shown in Fig. 1 of the drawing, so that the curtain 10 will contact therewith, should either of the sashes be raised, to prevent the undue spreading of the curtains resultant from wind currents or the ingress of air through the window casement when the window is opened.

The arm 11 is swung to the position shown by dotted lines in Fig. 2 when the window sashes 7 are closed so that the said arm will not protrude into the room, the hook terminal 13 being designed as a finger grip to permit the raising and lowering of the arm in a convenient manner. The terminal hooks 13 are disposed at right angles to the arm so as to serve as stops for abutting against the window casement when the arms 11 have been lowered to horizontal position, and in this manner the same are limited in their lowering movement. These terminal hooks 13 also enable the convenient swinging of the arms to horizontal position as they constitute finger grips.

From the foregoing it is thought that the construction and manner of operation of the device will be clearly understood, and therefore a more extended explanation has been omitted.

What is claimed is A curtain holder comprising an arm formed from a single strand of wire bent to provide a single eye at one end and a double eye at its opposite end, the said double eyes being at right angles to the length of the arm, and one of these eyes being open to form a hook, and a screw passed through the other eye at right angles to the arm and fastened in a Window casement for swingingly supporting the said arm.
