Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. *7, this.
Application filed November 13, 1912. Serial No. 731,070.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, HARRY AUPERL, a citizen of the United States, and residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Frappeying-Nlaohines, of which the following is a specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to machines or devices for use in frappeying wines, liquors or beverages in bottles, and the object thereof is to provide an improved device of this class which is simple in construction and convenient of operation, and also comparatively inexpensive; a further object being to provide a portable, hand supported and hand operated device of the class specified which can be carried about from place to place and operated wherever desired, and which does not involve a supporting frame of any kind or class.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification of which the accompanying drawing forms a part, in which the separate parts of my invention are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views, and in which Figure 1 is a side View of an apparatus involving my invention ;Fig. 2 a bottom plan view of a clamp which I employ, and Fig. 3 a side view thereof partly in section.
In the practice of my invention, I employ an ordinary hand drill device comprising a shaft a provided with a beveled gear a and a larger beveled gear a mounted in a plane at right angles to the plane of the gear a and meshing therewith and adapted to be turned by a crank a and whereby the shaft 04 will be rapidly rotated. The shaft a is provided with the usual clutch head I), and in the practice of my invention, I provide a clamp device 0 comprising a head portion 0 having a plurality of downwardly directed spring jaws 0 which, in the construction shown, are four in number, and passed through the head 0 of the clamp device 0 is a headed pin or bolt 0 which is adapted to be inserted into the clutch head 6 in the same manner as the shank of a drill, and mounted on the pin or bolt 0 above the head 0 of the clamp device 0 is a washer c and nut 0 by which the parts of the clamp device are securely bound together.
In Fig. 1 of the accompanying drawing, I have shown at (Z a bottle the contents of which it is desired to frappey, and in this operation the head (i of the neck of the bottle with the seal thereon is inserted into the clamp device 0 and the bottle is inserted into a tub or bucket of chopped or finely divided ice after which the shaft a is rapidly rotated by turning the crank (i This op eration, as will be understood rapidly rotates the bottle in the ice and in this way the contents of the bottle may be quickly frappeyed after which the bottle may be opened and the contents thereof discharged in the usual manner.
The spring jaws 0 of the clamp device 0 are inwardly and outwardly curved as shown to enable the head (Z of the neck of the bot tle to be easily and quickly passed into said clamp device, and said jaws will clamp and hold the head of the bottle with sufficient force to enable the bottle to be turned in the ice in the manner above described.
My improved. frappeying device may be used wherever desired and without any support or supporting frame, all that is necessary being to provide a bucket of ice into which a bottle is stuck, and the operation of frappeying the contents of the bottle may be performed in a dining room in full view of those ordering such beverages and others.
Having fully described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In a manually supported and manually operated device for frappeying wines and other liquids in a bottle, the combination with a rotary shaft and clutch head and means for turning the same, of means for clamping the bottle, comprising a main portion having a plurality of spring arms extending therefrom, the outer extremities of which are curved outwardly, a screw threaded shank,
adapted to extend through and beyond the my invention I have signed my name in said main portion for engagement With the presence of the subscribing Witnesses this clutch head and a nut for removably secur- 12th day of November 1912.
ing the shank in said main portion and caus- HARRY AUPERL. ing the clamping means, shank and bottle Witnesses: to rotate with the clutch head. 0-. MULREANY,
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as S. ANDREWS.
Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of Patents,
